Samurai without healing

Hi folks,

I'm new to the game (a vet of many MMORPG's) and have a somewhat strange question(s) to pose to the veterans of the game. If you were going to be hunting with a mage 95% of the time and he could handle the healing duties, does my samurai really still need healing? If so, then why?

I would think that in most cases two characters playing together would not both need to have the healing ability. If you agree with this statement, then what would you spend the extra points on? It would seem to open up a bunch of possibilities.

My samurai will be PVM only. I'll be laying off the pvp stuff for a while.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

You need some form of healing for the other 5% of the time.
You need some form of healing for times that your partner is incapacitated in some way. This can happen by, but is not limited to, he is dead, he is being attacked by other mobs and can't stop to heal you or he lost connection. (All of those and a few other things have happened to my hunting partners in the last week).

You don't, however, need the skill "healing." You can heal with confidence, chivalry, spirit speak or my favoirite, a combination of spirit speak and evil omen. Or you could use magery, but I wouldn't recommend it as a samurai.

The thing is, since you probably have the skill chivalry, which is useful for so much besides healing, you really wouldn't need the healing skill. It helps to have good fast cast/faster cast recovery as well as good mana regeneration.

On the other hand, if you have 50% enhance potions, you don't really need more in most "alone" situations. It all depends on your play style really.

Thanks for the replies folks. I am going to try getting by with potions and chiv. Stab with one hand, down potions with the other...hehe.

With vampiric embrace and honor, I do pretty well without healing, confidence is a good healer, and with lightning strike I hit often enough that hit points are rarely a problem..

Thanks Pirate Roberts.

So I'm thinking my template will start to look like this.

Swords
Bushido
Parry
Tactics
Chivalry
Necro

Lord Kotan

Slightly Crazed
Stratics Veteran
Stratics Legend
I don't have healing...

I'm able to solo dread and DF... without too much trouble.

Healing is too slow in this fast pace PvM world if you wanta fly solo :p

Actually, spirit speak would be a better choice than necromancy. Your form based leeches (wraith form for mana, vamp form for hit points) are modified by your spirit speak skill rather than your necromancy. You only need enough necromancy to cast evil omen reliably.

I believe SS only efffects mana leechs, not life. Even with GM spirit speak, I don't notice any more life leech when I hop into vamp.

Oh really?

Then I'm about to do a template modification of my own.

*Heads off to Test Center for some testing*
