Sakkarah Has a Dream!

And I love it! *From a recent interview with Sakkarah*

Do you have a 'dream project' you'd like to do, if time and resources permitted?

My dream project would revolve around RP Towns and RP tools. Frankly, I pretty much have it all laid out in my head. But it would require a lot of engineering, art and design time to make it happen. I would love to give players the real ability of building their own towns with a RTS side to it, where certain buildings and upgrades become available as the town grows in size. Each town would be encouraged (though not obligated) to specialize itself to unlock specific upgrades (i.e. crafter town vs. military vs. maritime). It would have a proper election, taxes, war systems integrated. Instead of everyone camping Luna, I would like to see people congregate to specific player towns when they want specific specialty goods or activities. With that, I would also like to give players a lot more tools to create and run their own events, from oracles to customizable clues and rewards that can be scattered out in the world, even in the depths of a dungeon.

Can you say "WOW" I did when i finished reading this. All I can say now is I fully support Sakkarah's Amazing dream, and hope to see it become a reality.

A little rain for the parade.

Its true $$$ seems to be in short supply for uo at the moment,
but even since the job cuts amoungst the Dev's things in game have been moving along allright, EMs stepping up to really make a big diffrence.
a plot arch in around the corner, events planned for the near future, and an expansion being begun ( tho smaller then SA)

I think things are going quite well all things considered.

Hmmm...
I have dreams too, and Sakkarah's, like mine, ain't likely to happen. :(
Not to be a downer, just a realist.
At one time there was a problem with housing tiles, what was it, the 8th anny or something that had custom tiles in it, and they couldnt figure out how to turn em on for peeps that bought later editions after that so everyone could have em. That ever get fixed?

Remember the ladybug and bookcase fiasco? They supposedly couldn't figure out how to get em on the website to sell em to us, even tho EAJapan had em going for a month.

Make a quick fix patch, and change everyone's skin tone...

Make a char/mount walk in the new client, instead of gliding...

Make existing unowned abandoned houses fall, instead of standing for years...

And the list gets longer and longer everytime they introduce anything. It seems something else always gets broken when they fix something.

*shakes head*

I am probably wrong, but I have the impression that most of what we are getting right now is stuff that was already done/partially completed when the layoffs occurred. When the skeleton crew has to start totallly from scratch, the story might be a bit different. Also, plotlines and story arcs just involve renaming a npc to be a bad guy, and maybe spawning some monsters here and there. Yep, like running a quest =)
Building from the ground up, gonna be a different story.

Hate to be a downer, but the time and effort and money involved would make this an expansion, not something easy to do under current circumstances. Announcements of long range plans and whats coming in the future mean very little right now. The only plans I trust are those that say "UO is currently up and running, let's go play!"

Once, when there was active involvement of seers and counselors, there were some fine player-run communities in UO. Most began to break up when the shards split into Tram and Fel. Elimination of the seers and counselors was the worst thing that happened, though, and nothing has been the same since. It would be nice if there was an affordable way for the devs to restore some of the things we have lost.

UO, while I have many great memories from the game, and the Legends shard in particular, is bleeding out a long slow death.:stretcher: I just dont know what to say when I think about how fun UO USED to be. Now its a little left over of this mixed with some partial stuff of that and thrown into a pot. Hopefully it fills enough people up to keep them full till the next half assed thing is cooked up.

Most dreams never become a reality, but is that any reason to stop dreaming?

Things arent allways going the way we would like them to, do we lay down and give up?

The economy has seen better days, havnt we all had to tighten the our proverbial belts?

Yeah it sucks we lost some great dev members, and yeah it sucks we lost things like fof, It allso sucks that the game store i played magic the gathering tournaments at for the last couple years, stopped hosting them because of the economy.
I cant really say i fault either EA, or G2K Games for there choices which effect me and a number of other people in an adverse way. That is simply buisness.

Only time will truely tell the destiny of this game we play, but i remain ever hopeful, and willing to make the best of whatever is to come for good or bad. ( as long as there is a classic client)

"Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. Last year for the most part was wonderful with the expansion and events. It may not have ended on a high note and that is a shame but such is the economy and business right now, though they personally shot themselves in the foot a bit with losing some great people. I look at our collective investment of $12+ a month as a great source of 24/7 entertainment that not even Avatar can satisfy *grins*

Some say they speak their displeasure by unsubscribing and that is everyone's right as a consumer. I just know that by doing that, I'm the one losing out on a game I really enjoy. I buy the lil dollar items on uogamecodes (*cough* when it LETS me) hoping that my new undertakers staff and snow tree buys Sakarrah and other devs a few more resources to focus on UO. It's the nature of the game and I'm playing :)

We can see by the honesty and dreams of a future UO in Sakarrah's answers that there is still much to do and I hope 2010 affords them the opportunity to do it! Thanks again Sakarrah *hugs*"

Ahh but when we tighten our proverbial belts, we shop for discounts and start taking our lunch to work rather than eat out every day.

When big companies who go from making 4 billion to only 3.65 billion they close studios, fire designers, get rid of developers, and hose every day joes.

Maybe Im just becoming anti corporations since I was one of the unfortunate casualties of down sizing.

Ironic isn't it, that the frontline peeps that are actually creating things to sell and making the items that are sold for money, are the ones that get the axe...and the big suits with the huge salaries and bonuses just truck right along without a problem.
Yeah I have a problem with corporations too, like mine, they keep cutting my store payroll, and keep adding clerical help at the office. If it keeps up, I don't know what the clerical help will be doing, there won't be anythign sold for them to worry about accounting for. [/rant]

But yeah, maybe the head of the studios and EA divisions could take a cut, lose a few of their aids and coffee fetchers, maybe a corporate jet or two, and leave the people actually producing products alone!

ooops, sorry gang, way OT, heheh, y'all carry on =)
