Surely if he can afford a trip into space, he should be able to scrounge enough spare change together to rescue UO!Arrrr, methinks he gots a meetin' with aliens ta finish up details o' their conspiracy ta convince EA ta sell UO back to him fer merely a few pieces o' eight!
you would think.Surely if he can afford a trip into space, he should be able to scrounge enough spare change together to rescue UO!
The man doesnt like the game or even cares about the ppl still left playing it so why even bother praising him?
If he had any respect for what he created then he would have never sold off his dreams for money. But then again his dreams were problay about money.
Origin Systems was sold to EA in 1992 I believe, 5 years before UO launched. I seriously doubt UO could have launched without the financial backing of EA to start with. Sadly you have to sell out your dreams in order to see them achieved....The man doesnt like the game or even cares about the ppl still left playing it so why even bother praising him?

However, Garriott had to put his own money into the project first before EA would even endorse it. And when they did, not only did they endorse it, they made sure to sacrifice Ultima 9 (and any future MMOs) to make sure it succeeded.Origin Systems was sold to EA in 1992 I believe, 5 years before UO launched. You say that like it's a bad thing. He's moved on to greener pastures. Green with money.
I never understood the hate some of you have forThe man doesnt like the game or even cares about the ppl still left playing it so why even bother praising him?

Why should a guy who worked hard have to give up millions of dollars of his OWN MONEY to the poor, instead of spending it on himself, who did the work to get there? The homeless and hungry citizens of Austin,TX really appreciate the millions of dollars he's blowing right now to inflate his ego even more, that could have been used to feed the people of the very city he built his egomaniacal castle in, Way to go ****...at least you're consistent...
Wow, that's all I can say to that response....Why should a guy who worked hard have to give up millions of dollars of his OWN MONEY to the poor, instead of spending it on himself, who did the work to get there?
Obama '08, huh Garth?
An argument could be made that those that have profited from society as Garriot has should give back to the same society that allowed him to get rich to begin with. Why should a guy who worked hard have to give up millions of dollars of his OWN MONEY to the poor, instead of spending it on himself, who did the work to get there?

- No worries. Even though he is working on his new creation, Tabula Rasa at NCSoft, there has still been plenty mention of Mythic's Ultima Online in the media over the past year. In fact, it seems like UO was mentioned more often than not in the news/online/tv articles I've seen.I was excited to see this news make the front page of cnn.com. I was disappointed when I found no mention of Ultima in the article.
Godspeed Mr. Garriott
Here is an idea. What if all 100k UO subribers start mailing Richard Garriott when he arrives back on Earth? Rather than begging and pleading with EAMythic, why not plead for the original Ultima creator to come back to his Ultima roots?
I'm pretty sure he will be in a good mood when he arrives back safe and sound. When would there be a better time to ask for his help?
OT: When I hear about "have nots" thinking they deserve something for nothing, it makes me sick. Richard Garriotts gift of Ultima is still giving...
It's just not clear enough in the stream from NASA, but I get:
Solar System is blank of blank
But person will not blank
In blank time.
The first blank and the last blank are the same and time could be speed. Anybody got anything more?
- I tried to mess with it a bit last night, but I didn't get too far. Maybe because I am not familiar enough with Tabula Rasa's hieroglyphic Logos symbols; but I definitely smiled when I noticed him sharing the message.I've got:
Eternal is the youth of solar system
but/however person/people will not be
in the youth forever
Or youth might be span.
Eternal is the span of the solar system
however people will not be
in the span forever
I just can't make out the symbol that looks like a bed. Two long bars with a horizonal one connecting them with a little form on top ... what could that be?
It has always been my own “conspiracy theory” that UO was in fact a deviously clever alien experiment to determine how much abuse a human would tolerate whilst paying for the privilege. As UO has survived for over ten years and spawned an entire industry of imitators I am sure said aliens are now quaking in their boots (“boots” is a somewhat inaccurate metaphor here as these aliens have tentacles). LB is going topside to accept the alien’s surrender and take his rightful position as the new Galactic Overlord.Arrrr, methinks he gots a meetin' with aliens ta finish up details o' their conspiracy ta convince EA ta sell UO back to him fer merely a few pieces o' eight!
Arrrr, they would be wearin' booties, then!As UO has survived for over ten years and spawned an entire industry of imitators I am sure said aliens are now quaking in their boots (“boots” is a somewhat inaccurate metaphor here as these aliens have tentacles).
