Sa is pretty boring

I came back for the sa expansion and have been very dissapointed. More stuff will not fix the two major problems with uo, the bugs and the lack of service.

They keep rolling out new lands and more items without fixing the existing issues.

What does old bugs and customer service have to do with a brand new expansion being boring as you say?

Not a single damn thing.

Rant much?

Boredom is a state of mind within one's own control. External stimuli can only go so far to alleviate the symptom before it returns.

I would think it foolhardy to believe an expansion would reduce the number of bugs, as the opposite has always been the case. :spider:

What type of service were you expecting with the expansion? Pretty much everything with which you may need help is amply handled by players, either here or on fansites. In regards to the expansion all you need EA/Mythic for is to take your money, pull back the velvet rope and you're in.

If you were unhappy and left UO and then came back to find that you are still unhappy with UO then it seems that you will never be happy with UO.
I would suggest that if it feels good do it. If it don't feel good then don't do it.

I love SA and am having a great time with the new lands and things to do. Sorry it isn't the same for you.

I have to disagree with the boring part. I dont find myself logging out due to boredom anymore. There are way too many things to do its almost overwhelming. I have to agree with Fink -"Boredom is a state of mind within one's own control"
Maybe you arent taking full advantage of the expansion?

I agree that there's still old problems. Some of them very old. Some even older still. But this is a great expansion, even with the problems. I'm hoping that they can do what one of them said he'd like to do, and that's go back and fix old problems. This expansion has given UO a great deal of content, and between it and the old content, there should be a lot to do for quite a while.

To who ever is in charge and making these decisions, that's my vote. Maybe with a little new stuff mixed in.

SA is the most fun expansion I have seen yet. I am just getting started with it...

I find it fascinating that a person would start a thread about how old bugs ruin their enjoyment of new content without actually listing a single bug in their post.

Dodger, if you could have one bug fixed, which would you pick?

Imbuing = boredom.
Wow... Are you kidding me? I would like to thank inbuing for reducing my stuff by at least 20% so far. Stuff I really did not want to throw away... Now I get rewarded for using it up.

I don't know if you and I are playing the same game... but I for one am LOVING the new expansion... perhaps it's your playstyle.

I think the problem is that he's using the wrong complaint (SA = boring) to describe his actual complaint (issues that have persisted since loing before SA).

Unfortunately in this case A /= B. SA is far from boring, yet at the same time, there are still legitimate issues with the game and in some instances how it is run.

After you finish training it, yeah. Training imbuing up though? How anyone could enjoy that is beyond me. Just a bunch of click spam.

No one ever enjoys training up a skill.

And geez, at least they're trying to build interfaces for crafting that make it simpler. Anyone remember how the OLD, OLD, OLD crafting menus used to look?

Sorry they didn't install a "set imbuing 1000" onto live shards. That might make you enjoy it more. :p

Heh, I remember the ones from January 1998...

Use tool, it then checked your skill... if you succeeded the check you got the menu, otherwise it didn't give it to you at all. Once you got the menu you side-scrolled through the initial group choices, then side scroll again through the items within that group.

You could only sell 5 items to an NPC at a time and they would only buy a certain allotment of the same item (until they were overstocked), then you had to wait to resell that item. There was no "recycling" of goods back into any kind of material and it was a click-race to try and buy out a needed resource before someone else did. Had to be careful using the thread on the loom because people could see the messages and time their use to steal the bolt.

Oh yeah, then there was that "skill gain wall" in the lower 90's that affected certain skills (92.7 if I recall correctly) for a while.

While the Imbuing menu isn;t entirely user friendly, it's a damn sight better than the way things used to be 12 years ago.

I'd go a step further and say that the Imbuing menu just isn't "training" friendly. Once you've trained the skill, I think it will function just fine, because you're not going to be imbuing hundreds of items at a time.

But yeah... I remember so well all those side-scrolling menus. For those of you who weren't around back then, imagine the tracking menu (it still looks that way, right?) with "major" categories, and then you double-click and get your "minor" item, and there was no "make last" button. For every item you wanted to create, it was click major, click minor.

Ugh those old menus sucked. And they weren't transparent either.

The way the imbuing menu works now is the initial menu lets you pick which item to imbue then it gives a list of choices. I'd really like when you target the item for it to have the properties and weight to pop up as information, like it does when you actually pick something to put on there, but this would be the base weight and number of properties of the item. It would be a header above the choices to imbue. But of course that would push all the choices down and some of them would go into a second, or like on weapons, a third page.

It's a puzzle game - you take a bag of random monster loot and you go piece by piece figuring out what mods give the best chance of gains. It's been a surprisingly good motivator for me - I honestly wasn't expecting to 120 the skill anywhere near this quickly.

I have to agree here, I've looked at Imbuing as a puzzle too, learning mod goes best where, which should be done first or later etc. Even trying to see mod intensities and what I can get for unraveling them. I've enjoyed the process so far even it its at a much slower pace then most.

SA actually brings a lot of new things that are all but boring:

  • New dungeons
  • New skills
  • New race
  • New pets
  • Staining
  • Breeding
  • Quests
  • Items
  • etc.

However, I have to agree about one thing: SA is an expansion which (like the previous expansions) adds new things, instead of improving existing things. The potential of the existing UO is HUGE, and it hasn't even been tapped by 20%. I also keep asking myself why we need more land and dungeons, while 90% of the existing land and dungeons are unused and deserted. I'd rather see an improve of Monster AI, added features on existing land and dungeons, etc., instead of another expansion of content.

Yes stronlgly disagree with the op. Up and untill this weekend I have been training up imbuing and taking my best warrior to the new dungeons to size up where the drops are and the drop rates. I got a little sidtracked this weekend when the house next door to my little village went IDOC. I wanted the plot so I spent some time brushing up on the changes to the system. I got it!

Then I trained up eval and mysticism on my elf with great lrc/lmc/fc/fcr/mr gear. Most of the gear won't convert to garg. I made a decent lrc/mr suit for my garg and stoned the skills over to him. I took him out fighting today to build loyalty. I'm not a fan of casting templates so it took a bit of getting used too.

Since it was a new char I forgot to set insurance to auto renew. I died deep in the tomb of kings twice getting the abyss quest. Of course on the second "help I'm stuck" request, I res to an empty pack. I wish they would change that to default to auto renew. Once I got past that and my macros down it was actually kind of fun.

If I had any feedback about the mystic spells it would be that they seem to not go well together. You are either a melee mystic or a casting mystic. They require too many compliments to be both. But I've only been at it a few hours. Much to learn yet on that temp.

I started out fiddling with throwing. What stood out the most was the enchant spell. I would like to see that broken out into a seperate spell for each hit effect. Kind of a hassle clicking on gumps when it wears mid fight.

I've dropped throwing for the casting template. It kills much more slowly than my necro pally. Again tho I am melee any other time. I'm not well versed at casting. I am only at 3k loyalty now. I'll see how I'm doing at 10k. On melee I can cut through the spawn fast and struggle with some of the stronger bosses. It's the other way around with this template. Spawn dies slowy but the bosses that I could barely melee are kind of a pushover with that colossus thinger. So ya I had a blast!

Hmmh... I only clicked 1 button and it made a dagger, imbued the dagger 12 times using 4 different mods and then unravelled it. Had to take resources still sometimes ofc. UOA > Enhanced Client. k thx.

And about training... All crafting skills are the same :(
