I would suggest beat it down then honour thyself and tame.

Find a quiet spot (I tame them over by the coast) then pull one out on its own.

I tend to either stealth up and eat an orange petal to protect against cast poison, or I run in and drop an invis when I'm right beside the runey. That gives me a second or two before it realises what's going on and tries to eat my backside.

Be ready and equipped to cure that poison too. I try and work within reasonable distance of a healer *just in case* :p But mostly I found if I just bolted off screen and healed up I was fine. I try and invis myself when I start taming.

I use a nightmare to beat up runeys, but they can be fast at healing back up once you start taming. But on the positive side, while they're healing themselves, they're not flamstriking you ;) That said I've always found them easy as long as I don't let them get a bite in. Or one of those [insert string of swear words] ninjas surfaces...

Honor taming is the fastest and safest way, next would be to have a friend or guildmate that can peace tag along, and if that isn't an option then next would be to beat it down to about quarter health and then tame. The problem you will probably run into now since the Treasure of Tokuno event has started back up is taming a good one without some jerk running up and killing it. On the flip side you can probably work with some people and lore the beetle(s) and if doesn't meet your standards, I'm sure they would be glad to kill it for you quickly.

All the good advice above ....

I used the Yamadon(sp) Point to do the Runic Beetles.

I draged the Yamadon(sp) away from the area, then went back and cut out one of the two Beetles.

I was on a Mount and I do not recall having any problems staying more or less away from them while lead taming it. Once I had one, I would use it to either kill the other one or get killed by the other one depending on how they lored vs each other.

I have the Charger of the Fallen and it is a 1 Control Slot. If you have a Night Mare I wouldnt expect to much difficulty there.

I will usually ride an ethy and put the beat down with EV's and then just lead tame. Everybody else has filled in the rest of the holes I use, so combine what works for you and practice makes perfect....
