What is your perspective on stealthing by the Trade-In vendor hoping the steal an item that is drop on the ground?

Is it a game play style or is it a morality issue?

Should it be allowed?

Go by the old rule...
If it is on the ground it is fair game..
If you are a kind person, give it back.
If not a kind person, then you pocket the booty...

If it hits the ground it's for everybody.

You can only count on nice players to get it back. Just like Garriott and Koster wanted. ^^ (that's a sarcasm)

There is a skill called, Detect Hidden. This was put into the game for a reason. With soulstones out the ying yang, there is no reason not to have this skill somewhere.

imhop, It is a play style. Just like buying something off a vender in Fel, and promply having it stolen out of your backpak.....hehe........

There is a defense for everything in this game. If players do not use it, and suffer a loss because of it, i do not think it is right to cry to EA. Remember all the people in the old system that bought Vanquishing Weapons, and 2 attacks later the sword fell apart because it was so worn out? I.D. and Arms Lore were the defense for that, but no one wanted to wast slots on those skills.

If you have to make several trips to turn stuff in, then do it.

I'm sure most of the items will be blessed, so you won't have to worry about theft. That being said, I will be hanging out close so I can keep an eye on those items just incase they do hit the floor.

It's hillarious that being an ass is considered a playstyle. Only in UO.

Personally, I'd pick it up and ask the person if they'd dropped it on accident or purposely. If by accident I'd give it back. If not, I'd keep it.

I've done this many times over the years I've been playing, and you'd be surprised at how many people will give you even more just because you were honest about it, not that I'd expect such, it's just nice to know that people still appreciate honesty.

What's sad is how many are shocked that I offered to give whatever it was back.

EA in general does not like it. Remember this is why you have to have the resources in your backpak to use. In the past You could smelt that ore on the ground, but players would run up when they saw you bunny hopping your 5000 ore to the forge, and would smelt before you could.

Hey the developers started it. When they created Doom and felt that giving thieves the ability to steal items off the floor was a good idea.

Then again, I have been patroling the inns around Britania for years. People leaving items on the ground has given me many fun episodes to capture on screen shots...la

I guess if you are concerned about it, have a friend tag along with you that has tracking skill. They can track a few times to see if anyone you can't see is lurking in the vicinity. Detect Hidden skill and the Reveal spell do not generally work in Trammel (I believe they will work in Tram on guild and alliance mates), so you wouldn't normally be able to force someone out of hiding. However, if you are worried that any hidden character found by tracking is going to take whatever might drop on the ground, you will at least have the information to decide to leave and then try again later.

Hehehe well Raven, what can they do? Make it so you can't drop items on the ground anymore? ;P

The only thing that sucks is when you lose connection or get a client error while dragging an item. When this happens, you can drop what you are dragging, and you have no time to recover it.

And as for detect hidden, yeah, right. Because so many people want to grind that skill
. Maybe if it were more practical?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have it at GM level (as well as tracking in the 90-100 range) on at least 16 characters (could be 20, but I don't have my spreadsheet handy to check). 'Tis indeed a very fun skill to have if you like to detect stealthers and be aware of or able to reveal faction traps in Fel.

Hehe....I know at least one of them that has it.....

I still open trade windows by dropping a single coin or bandage on peopel..

Well it depends on what you drop , if you drop a val hammer or a heartwood kit , dont expect peopel to hand it over

I think the world, and all that is in it, is what we make of it. Some choose to make decisions based on the golden rule, some choose to make decisions based on selfishness. What do you think about it is the more important question.

The counter/rebuttal

There are two sides of every shard.

The spirit of One side is the Original Rules of all is fair.

The spirit of the other side is the Original Rules of all is fair DO NOT apply.

People ask why Felluca is dead and withering? They need go no further than to connect the dots.

People that want Felluca FORCE the spirit of their side of the fence on people on the other side of the fence. The Reverse IS NEVER true.

Connect the Dots and you will eventually understand why Felluca was doomed and can not grow.

You go to a friends house and they have a bowel of coins sitting for people to take if they need change.

You fill your pockets. That is all your saying you are. An individual with no sense of self control, let alone any respect for other peoples property.

For those that want to reply "It is only a game, get a grip", then if it is really only a game, to you, then why is it required that YOU MUST DO a thing. As in addicted to doing it? If it is really only a game to YOU then you should not be being controlled by it.

hehe, some of these replys are really funny, and hypocritical. Remember in the old days, the, "Tinker Bomber".? We would make a chest, place junk in it, close and trap it. Then Mr/Mrs goody 2 shoes comes along and says, "Oh, a chest, that is not mine, and belongs to another player, but i will open and take their stuff anyway". (opens chest} BOOM ooOOOoooOOO.

This same type of person cried to anyone who would listen, and Tinkering was nerfed all to hell. Why? It was someone elses fault for tempting me to open that chest. I am good, how dare i die.........

Aslong as its within gamemechanics its perfectly fine.
I myself would and have given items back.
There are allways ways to get ones own back against griefers:
Short story :

In Eve-Online someone griefed someone about a year ago.
The griefed-person waited a year and then hired a mercenary corp (guild)
The mercs surveyed the target for about 2 weeks. Then after 2 weeks they struck..devastatedley... The griefed person who hired the mercs because he himself didnt want to get his corp involved learned that they as they couldnt catch him destroyed his pos (structure) he had built...
The damage from griefing was perhaps 200k isk - the destroyed pos was about 800 mio damage... I think the griefer learned his lesson hehe
