Ok so I have been thinking a lot about UO and the time I spent playing. As I said in my last post, my son is 14 will be 15 in July, and he is playing Skyrim on his XBOX and he keeps telling me it is like UO. I know it is not, as I have watched him play a few times, but it is similar in the fact that you fight things and summon things and use potions, etc…

So again back to my thinking about UO, and a possible return. With all the changes, would this OLD Timer/ Relic Player, be able to return. I have no doubt that my son would be able to play, as he never played in the days of old, but would this Old Man be able to adjust?

I am not even sure if I have the time, nor do I know if I want one more distraction for my son, it is just a thought. Please no flames; I come here because this is my Safe Haven and where I have always come for honest answers.

The short answer yes, the slightly longer answer, it depends. Depending how long you have been out you may not be able to compete on the same level you were used to. Now if you have the patience you can get back to that level in time.

It would depend on what you're returning for.

I'm an old-timer (in RL, much older than you). I still don't understand as much as I should about the game. Heck, that was an understatement. There's a long list of things I don't understand.

I don't even think in terms of competing with anyone else. My reason for returning may be entirely different than your reason. I'm not even certain my reason makes any sense... but after I quit, I never stopped missing this strange and often wonderful little world. So I came back... and I'm glad I did.

Only you can know if returning would be right for you.

If you still have friends playing or are on a shard with an active stratics population you will have no trouble. Its just a matter of finding someone that does know the game and having them teach you. If your looking to come back I would be willing to devote some time to teaching you what I know if you wanted.

I returned about six months ago after a few years off.
The properties on items have gotten kinda insane but enough of UO is still there to be fun.

I've been playing SkyRim as well and while it is a well done and enjoyable game, it's not UO.
It's basically another scripted game where you have to follow the storyline to "Win".

I think the sandbox feel of Ultima Online might be the number one thing that keeps me here.

There is just so much, So many different things you can do in this game that makes this game truly different. I don't know what you liked to do ingame way back when it's hard to give advise. If you're the average player who likes to dabble in a lot of different things you're going to love many of the new additions to the game. For many of us, when we log on, the question is 'what do I feel like doing now'?

Someone who plays strictly for PVP or for gold will have a perspective that is different than mine and I'm not even going to attempt to address the game from that perspective as I'm not qualified.

Best advise I can offer is just come play and ask questions when you need to ingame. Hope your son enjoys it too. It's not uncommon for families to play together.
