Actually, for a mage doing ToT, Blade spirits are good for killing Kappa, as they are immune to the spilled acid. When I'm doing the Serado spawn, I typically cast 1 Blade spirit after each 3 EVs, as the BS will last long enough (usually for the EV cast for two of the other control slots to die TWICE) to let me get the mana back to cast two more EVs. (this is on my tamer, and I pet-ball summon my GD when the lessers and revs start showing)

For a beginner mage, Blade Spirits are great. Give any newbie player a spellbook and some reagents/LRC armor, and they can be slaughtering stuff within the hour.

This is probably why they have that 10s casting time on them (higher then even the 8th level spells). They really are quite good, when you consider how easy it is to cast them.

agreed - i like using blade spirits sometimes, for the lower mana required (versus EVs). and sometimes they seem to confuse monsters who won't dispel them right away like they do with EVs. blade spirits are definitley still a viable form of combat. blade spirits ftw!
