Returning Veteran ... What do I do now?

Hail and well met!

I am a long time veteran player that just returned to UO. Luckily, I did not lose my house or my belongings (recurring payments on my account) so I have plenty of older items and money on the way. I installed my client and now back in action!

My question is to the current player base here: What is there to do now?

Granted, I do not have Stygian Abyss or High Sea expasion packs...yet...but I am interested to know what is fun to do these days? Is it PvP? PvM? Factions? Spawns? Crafting?

Looking for some feedback on how to direct my priorities. A lot of my equipment is out of date, but I do have skilled characters. I heard about imbuing, so I'm going to need to invest some money into using that for new equipment.

Any advice is appreciated.

A better question is: What ISN`T there to do now?

But it all comes down to what YOU want to do.

Welcome back! :)

Hah. So true with a game like this.

I like it all, but not sure how PvP looks now, nor know what there is to battle via PvM. I went through a phase of trying to solo bosses on a Sampire which was fun....but looking for something with a bit more dynamic and challenge.

You could do what I've been doing for the past 5 years...
Make really awkward and unconventional templates, then try and actually use them.

If you were playing a sampire around the time you last quit, then I doubt the game has changed too much for you to be floored by. For players who quit pre AoS or SE, it must feel a lot like what Walt Disney will experience when they finally find a cure...

You could always become a Guild Leader and run a series of engaging player events. How about bringing back Friday Night Fights? :)
Guild leader? Gahh.....not sure if I'm ready for that yet! I need to get my bearings with my characters before I can lead others.

There is so much to do that you really have to ask yourself what is most fun for me

Ok, maybe this will help. Stygian Abyss and beyond....I am unfamiliar with the newer content, so what are some of the fun, new things I can experience?

Stygian Abyss is by far my favorite expansion. It is really well thought out. All the SA planned content is not yet in game.

1) Mysticism is fantastic!

2) Imbuing: Give imbuing to one of your crafters. It really adds a whole new dimension to the game. Equipment that used to be available only to the extremely lucky or the extremely wealthy are available to all. Most of the ingredients to make superior equipment is obtainable in the abyss through PvM (use your sampire!). The benefit is that you can endlessly tweak your template and suit to create something unique. Have fun taking a basic template you understand well and tweaking the heck out of it to suit your individual playstyle. While there are flavor of the month templates, creating a well thought out template and suit is very rewarding and within reach.

3) Spend some time exploring Ter Mur and the abyss. Fight a few badies, I recommend the forgotten servants if you want a challenge and a shload of imbuing ingredients.

4) Join a guild.

5) Visit your shard's EM forum to find out about upcoming EM events, always a blast.

Thank you for the advice. I'm looking forward to adventuring in the Abyss and seeing what awaits me.

I put a message out on the Atlantic forum in terms of good PvM guilds to get myself adjusted and in a group setting.

If you like fighting bosses then get SA. The bosses in the Abyss range from powered-up versions of normal monsters that you don't need to be especially hardcore to solo, all the way up to the Slasher, which I've seen slaughter players by the dozens when the Event Moderator on Atlantic dumped one on the crowd.

Pretty much all of the spawns drop SOMETHING worth grabbing, too. Not only do artifacts (on rare occasion) come from the bosses, but the trash spawn leading up to them drops the ingredients used for Imbuing.

Welcome back,

After you make an imbuer(sp) and update you're armor and weapons, make a sampire. You can see suggestions on uoguide.com /Stratics is a great site and props to them! However, both sites make harmony. Other than a imbuer and a Sampire for new charactors, SA mini champs are easy enough w/ a sampire and the end boss a renowned has a chance of new artifacts see uoguide for a better list. If you have any mibs or sos dont turn them in fish them up. if you have white nets. there are some new artys you can get from Scalis The enforcer. besti can suggest is read up on whats new and decide what you're into....

Thank you for the advice. I do have a Sampire, but his equipment is a bit outdated. I will use him to start gathering resources and at least check out the Abyss if that is a suitable template.

Aye. I know this. :) Thank you. I learned the hard way and lost a Singing Ball to a stealther. I know that Tracking is also a good method as well.
