planning on returning to OSI after 20 years. I’m in the UK, so would join Europa. However, from what I’m reading online all servers but Atlantic are pretty much “dead”, is that right?

The idea that there are no active servers except Atlantic is a myth advanced by Atlantic players.

There are players on every shard but the activity level cannot compare to Atlantic. Just create a character on Atlantic and look around if you want.

Europa is fine if you are ok with less players and not as stocked vendors etc. If you find a guild you can still access all content. However running into random players is rare.

If by active you mean bots and 3rd party client users toss in shopping it's truly a trash heap

If you mean expensive, useless 'rares' you're possibly right, if you mean useful daily needs then you haven't been to the RAA guild shop. I don't think I've ever set foot in that shop without finding at least one other player shopping there.

Most servers always have some activity, just not as much in the past. When I came back, I looked at Atlantic for the reasons you mentioned, but came back to my home shard, because I wasn't going to spend the money to transfer all of my characters and their bank boxes, and my account was a few months shy of 14 active years (so no shard transfer shields just yet).

I'm glad I picked staying on LS - I was able to get a prime housing spot in Zento that my kids love. I'm still trying to convince them to move to a small keep spot I found that has nothing in it, but I get why they want Zento, so I've given up on a massive customization plot.

Vendor Search is something that has made smaller population shards much easier to live on.

I'm also back UO after a few years. and I would like to meet up with old friends. Going to try to rebuild my e-life in Europe.

I hope that after the first season of NEW Legacy we'll see more people active in Europe.

Welcome back! You'll definitely enjoy a lot of the improvements like Vendor Search, and of course being able to place a decent-sized house in a decent location (one of the benefits of playing on a smaller shard).
