I think you can still find spots to place some of the smaller size houses. Takes some searching, but I suggest grabbing a house placement tool and trying spots in the area you would like to have your house. You might only be able to place a really small, starter house, but at least you will have a place to dump your stuff and can start looking for bigger places.
