Returning player

Hi guys,

I used to play UO on Europa many years ago, having left about 7 or so years ago.

Anyhow, after playing many other MMO's I am heading back...nothing else has ever compared to UO.

I was wondering what I should be looking for on the shard now...where do people hang out? Is a treasure hunter still a good character to play? What's a good way of making money? I gave everything away before I left so as not to be tempted back. Lastly, what's it like for finding housing spots nowadays?

Actually, lastly lastly, are there many guilds active these days...I'd be more interested in some sort of roleplay guild.

First, welcome home!
People hang out in Luna, but also there's now 'chat' to allow us to talk to each other. I normally hang out in 'help' channel when I'm logged in. 'General' channel gets a bit rowdy for my taste.
Treasure hunting got a boost a while ago, there's some interesting, and lucrative, items in the chest - but first you have to find it. Locations have been randomised. We have a write up here
Housing spots aren't abundant, but they do exist. One or two of the folk around here are pretty expert at finding them, one of them may offer to assist.
RP guilds are still around, but I'm not in one, so I'll leave someone else to answer that for you.

So...finally got into the game and found my character had more than I thought in my bank so I went shopping for a lmc suit...but couldn't find any shops.

Where are they nowadays?

Sadly, i have found the Europa population has really dissapeared Really difficult to get an Arcane circle and all the hunting spots seem to be deserted (even at peak times)... often like playing a single player game not an MMO ... Not sure what the answer is

I see appeals for circles, but I'm usually in the middle of something and don't want to recall home, swap characters and go to WBB, interupting what I was doing

Yes its not possible to answer to all calls for circle. Also there are different chats channels, not everyone use general. Every night at 8 CETt weavers gather on Europa. If people call on guild chat I bring my weavers as well but its better people show up at 8 even when they are not going to hunt with their weaver, then to expect others to leave what they are doing all the time.

I understand your point MInerva, but what i'm getting at is that if the population levels were healthy, asking on General chat should be more than enough at peak times to get a circle together, even if a lot of the other weavers were doing other activities.. Yet it's a struggle

The Answer is join a good guild buddy and communicate with them and you'll find lots to do together

Prime Example - 9pm BST Wednesday nite (primetime.now) ... 2 people at arcane circle after asking in all chat channels for group for 40 minutes (After auction)!!
