Returning Player - Making Melee

So to start this off, I'm returning with a good chunk of gold in my bank account (about 50-60m) so if needed, I can buy a few things, though I was planning on spending as little as I can to start with. My template for this character is thus:
Chivalry
Parrying
Swords
Tactics
Anatomy
Healing
(whatever)

Dex 120
Str 90
Int 15

Elf

I don't plan on buying the 120 scrolls until I'm able to use them, and even then I may not get them for all of these. This guy is going to be a straight up Paladin. Big broad-sword, heavy armor, tower shield, armored horse (if there is one)... the whole schebang.

My big issue that I'm having so far is finding out what kind of gear I should use. Right now I'm using a virtue suit that I had in my bank, and it has the nice perk of not needing to be repaired. But my big question comes when I hit 100 (or 120) swordsmanship in a few weeks (months?). What kind of stats should I aim for and is there any specific items that I should include in my suit. I want to be able to solo the bigger guys in a few months, if possible.

I already planned to try to get my Dex/Str up to 150 with gear, and so I may end up lowering my Dex and raising my Str if I can. Int I'm not too worried about, I've got about 35 mana and if needed I can throw another 5 points into Int. I may also get a +25 stat scroll, which should solve that problem entirely with 5 more in Int and the rest in Str.

Let me know if there is anything I left out that you need to help with this guy. Thanks for the help!

It really depends on what direction you want to go with the armor. (as for swords, you can hit 120 in a couple of days, take a twinkling scimitar to a champ spawn and do whirlwind attacks- or in the SoA dungeon with the acid slimes- have spell channelling imbued on the weapon to prevent the weapons durability from being killed from the acid slugs)

My paladin is outfitted in full plate. But it comes down to cost.

You'll want crimson cincture, probably a Ranger's Cloak. You'll want the 25 stat scroll and probably the +5 new one as well.

Using a shield, maxing out everything isn't going to be that hard. There are a couple of nice artifact shields ( Hephaestus is nice, Wall of Mouths....).

I use twinkling scimitar for the lesser spawn and change to Long Swords for the champs.

While twinkling scimitar? A radiant scimitar must be better.
WW damage will be low without Bushido bonus.

You need to get +25 stats and +120 Sword scrolls as soon as possible.

I suggest you to train Bushido as well and go without shield. But if you want a shield you could start with Sign of Order/Chaos and get a reforged shield with HCI/DI/DCI/SSI/FC.

You can go with 120 STR/DEX and use potions for serious fights. With a "equip 50 EP ring" macro you will get 150 STR/DEX by potions.

To do good damage you need a lot of mana for special moves like AI/DS. And you will need Resisting Spells to have mana even being mana drained.

Is this some kind of bug? Never knew that

Heh, it's not a bug, it's a "feature." That used to be the motto of my guild on City of Heroes.

The direction you go depends on your play style and what gives you the most enjoyment. I play a pure Paladin, and enjoy a fight when you have to do everything you can just to stay alive. My skills are the same as the ones you listed and all at 120. If you want a pure Paladin, then build on those skills and work on a suit that compliments the skills. Ideally, you want to max out your strength, hit points, dexterity and stamina. You say you want to solo the bigger guys in a few months. Depending on what you consider the bigger guys, a pure Paladin does have its limits.

Spell channeling has prevented slime acid damage for years. I highly recommend it for the first level in Vermin Horde spawns.
