Hello,

I am returning to the game after a long absence. Is there a thread out there that let's me know what has changed over the years so I can get back up to speed? Also, what do I need to purchase in order to get access to all current game content? I hope there is a single package that I can buy that will allow me to do this, rather than buy each major update separately.

Regards,

SBF

Depends on how long you were gone. If you don't already have them, Stygian Abyss and High Seas expansions at $20/each.

As for catching up. I suppose you could start with the Patch Notes. Again, depends on how long you were gone.

Aye, search UO.com or UOGuide for the Publish patch notes and then work your way back in time.

Will be a lot of info to absorb though. Welcome back.

You'd need to buy both Stygian Abyss and High Seas to get access to everything.

Thanks for the reply. Am I mis-remembering, or didn't there used to be a way to view your characters offline on MyUO? There seems to be a way to look up chars, but none of mine seem to be coming up even after I have logged them on and checked them out. (The rewards seem to pile up over the years, right?)

Well, to be honest, lots has changed. It used to be that you had to buy a whole bunch of expansions to get the good stuff. And every expansion since Third Dawn (to a leeser extent) or Lord Blackthorne's Revenge (LBR) the Devs tacked on a new facet accessible from the Public Moongates' menus.

Mondain's Legacy (seventh expansion, released 2005) was a game changer as they actually redid portions of Trammel & Fel to incorporate a new elvish race which had been hibernating or something. They are new dungeons, sorta. There's a small elven city accesible from Yew Town called "Heartwood." Being an elf is cool. An elf female is capable of wearing all elven & all human clothes and armor. For whatever reason, when you start a new account you are defaulted to ML and start in New Haven. An irritating new spell skill was invented as well: spellweaving. It is annoying because you have to do several quests to gain each spell in the book You can't transfer spellweaving to another character who hadn't done the quests.

Also, there's human to elf or elf to human quests. Yes, I said the Q word! But unlike any other MMO, doing a quest isn't mandatory for progressing.

Third Dawn was closed down and a new "3D client" called Kingdom Reborn came out but itself was closed down in favor of the "Enhanced Client."

Yes, Stygian Abyss is an expansion. There's a new gargoyle race to play as. Uh.... well, that's about it. I won't bother writing any more comments. Tons more changes....

definitely get stygian abyss, high seas is kinda useless unless your into fishing or absolutely need the plus 1 stam dci sash. and for increased storage. the other theme packs are also generally worthless, i would see what they offer and if you would use them before buying. one lets you make booze. one lets you grow plants better.

I have SA on both my accounts, high seas on 1 account for the increased storage. i find thats enough.

If you are talking about Vet Rewards, they only pile up for accounts that are paid for.

That was rebuilt with a new URL http://search.uo.com

Also I'm not sure of the update time for the new system so that might be why your toon won't show up immediately

High Seas is only useless until you want to participate in an EM event where they take a High Seas ship.... or it's only useless if you still want to have to sail on the seas with a super slow ship and worry about having to use a silly key rather than have a rune to your ship and be able to get a new rune if you somehow lose yours. The new ships are worth the 20 bucks IMO.

But then I like doing the trade quests and I also enjoy fishing.
