Returning Player - List of Questions

Hello everyone - for some reason, I decided to re-active my UO account after 15 years.....my main was Legolas and I played Catskills from '98 to '03. I quit shortly after Trammel ruined the game - I was a PK and then played Minax faction once stat-loss came in. Since then I've sporadically played some of the gray shards.

I want to make a mage and I was wondering about the following:

1. I have 5 unclaimed Veteran rewards - I am thinking an ethy mount and four red soulstones? Are all of those items blessed here on Siege?
2. Can I make a living as a Scribe-Mage selling and using slayer spellbooks? Is the scribe BOD system implemented and is it worthwhile?
   
3. I have an existing character that has GM swords and Tactics (everything else is barely in ROT) - should I save the Tactics on a soulstone or does it not make sense to have more than 60 tactics now a days?
4. What does a +20 Magery scroll go for on Siege?
5. How do I access the Siege bless gump from the classic client?

Howdy ! I'm happy that you decided to try again UO and expecially SP that really worth ...
About your question:
1) Use veteran reward to get soulstones it's a waste for me... Soulstones can be bought from players or from store... It's better use vet rewards for other things
2) Scribe-Mage is a good choice but if you like mysticism that can be a good add... Rising Colossus is a great summon... About slayer book, on SP aren't blessed so be careful if you want use them
3) Tact and Sword are still good but i'm not an expert about melee
4) 20 magery worth around 4 milions today
5) Siege Bless on CC... You can active it by clicking once on your char and then choicing Siege Bless Item.

Your question warrants a longer answer, but in brief:

A recent event produced a whole series of blessed slayer spellbooks with great mods, and that event ran for a few weeks. A set of necro slayer are also produced by the Roof of Shadowguard. This has dampened the market for scribe books.

As for vet pics, you may want to wait. If your current skills are not finished yet, spend some time on those while you ease back into the game.

For gold, consider joining the VICE alliance. Based on what you wrote you probably would be a better fit in one of their guilds than in one of the White alliance guilds. I think Max Blackoak is still the lead on that, but it has been a while since I was in it so leadership may have changed. It would only take one lucky break at an IDOC our a couple of Shadowguard runs to set you up with plenty of gold.

Do not forget Deal no Deal on the Prodo shards, what you win there can be paid here (Only 10%). But if you win big like Tanager did she brought home 10 million gold, but even a million won there is 100k here that no peanuts.

Also GIL has monthly auction you might do better to look over the past ones to get an idea of what you could sell there (Vet rewards wise)

1. ethy mounts and soulstones are blessed on Siege. If you want to pick them, why not...

2. it will be VERY hard to make a living like that. furthermore scribe mage templates, while still ok in PvP have usually been replaced by more powerful templates like mystic mage, spellweaving mage or hybrid templates for both PvP and PvM. the most lucrative sources of income still require you to leave guardzone and fight monsters. if you're still absolutely must be a scribe mage your best source of income from that skill would be gate scrolls I would assume...

3. 60 tactics is all you need to do both special moves (contrary to what Babydoll posted!), having 90 or more can make sense if you can fit it into whatever template you're planning...usually those skillpoints are better spent elsewhere though. I am assuming you're turning this swordsman into your new mage. if not then turn him into a dexxer (sampires still can do most of the PvM all by themselves)

4. 3-5 mil sounds about right, depending on how desperate the seller is for money.

5. single click yourself and select Siege bless from the menu

How old is your account? That could be vitally important to your vet reward selection. Soulstones sell for approximately 2.7 - 2.9 mill on a vendor. Most 1st year pics sell for that price range. If your account is pushing 6+ years you can probably advertise "selling a pick of xx year" and make more money, thus able to afford more soulstones. You'd get more bang from your vet rewards. Don't waste em on soulstones when those are easily purchased from the ingame UO store.

Thank you for the input all - I am leaning towards the Spellweaving mage:

120 Mage
120 Med
120 Eval
120 Resist
120 Wrestling

So could this template participate in the highest level PvM content, solo some big monsters and possibly PvP at somepoint?

Do I still have a choice between Heartwood and Sanctuary for the spellweaving quest?

I'm no mage specialist, but I feel wrestling would be a waste. Just use a mage wep if you're going for the defensive aspect.

Throw on some mysticism. That way you can farm with a rising colosis and have access to some more healing/good pvp spells.

other people like to forego resist and use trapped chests instead. the problem with mage weapons obviously is disarm.
spellweaving mage is definitely viable, even more so when combined with mysticism or necro templates. with mysticism templates you replace meditation with focus.
