Returning Player... Help

Been away from UO about 8 years plus and played everything there is. Can't stand another day of WOW or Aion which I have been recently playing. Just logged back onto UO today and the change is so overwhelming, I have no idea where to begin again. I am not looking for handouts, money or anything like that. Rather, some good advice, guild or a VERY patient person that likes to hold a noobs hand.

I have characters on Catskills.
Ciran and Frosty

Thanks!

First piece of advice is to go to New Haven (the island isn't young-only anymore) and experiment with all the skills, old and new. Most skills can be bought up to 40 (or worst, 33) there, and there are fast-gain quests to get many of them to 50 skill by working them locally (combat skills in the ruins of old Haven, where the undead are not agressive until you attack them, with the exception of the triggered spawn Drelgor - and he has a semi-rare piece of bone armor on him, on occasion). Occasionally, you'll run into someone there that is willing to help.

Welcome back!
I returned to UO (Catskills) 2 years ago, after a 7-year break. I know how you feel. My first advise is: Take your time, don't rush things. It's going to take at least 6 months to catch up with all the changes, and another 6 months to figure out how things really work. This 1 year of learning is the most fun part of your return, believe me. Discovering new things and improving in little steps is what I enjoyed most.

By the way, you can read about my adventures since my return (and before) on the Ultima Online Travelogues. It might be an interesting read for you. Also, you will find extensive information about geography, inclucing maps for downloading, on this site.

Have fun!

Welcome back! Both Basara and Capn' Pike offer great advice. As with the old days, learning (relearning) UO is half the fun.

welcome back !

I rejoined UO aswell (again lol) last month.

Played from 2000 till 2006 , rejoined in 2008 for a month and last november i rejoined yet again...

I've also played WoW...got kinda bored once level 80.
Also played Aion till september...but i had my baby on the way and knew aion is not the kind of game that fits into my new schedule.

UO is perfect...i can recall and log off whenever i want...i'm not stuck in raiding groups that take 4 hours , or i don't have to run back to town.

And besides that...i missed my tamer too much.
Super being a hunter was cool in WoW...
But having a massive huge dragon by your side in UO is even nicer.

I really love UO , it has it's own style.
Unlike so many games working with raid groups and levels.

Thanks for the advice.. I will have to take it slow and experiment. Is there another option besides New Haven? My character is a tamer skillls all skills 100+, however all equipment dated.

Any of the original dungeons would be good, though initially you should avoid Destard. They added Greater Dragons to the game (a pet you should try to get, eventually), and they would eat you alive with your dated equipment and current pets. The original dungeons also have artifact drops in them - a few shields and weapons, an ankh necklace that gives a regen bonus if worn at a shrine and the mantra recited, a statue that gives a luck bonus based on account age, and 7 of the 8 pieces of a suit that combined to be a blessed all-70s suit (though not medable).

Wrong, Shame, Covetous and Despise would be good starter points, provided your pets are still ready to go.

I still have a bonded WW and nightmare. Have things changed that much that these animals are obsolete for the dungeons you mentioned? Also, I have gold still in bank, advice on gear? You would fall out of your chair if you saw what I have on.

WW & Mare are still good for many things.

most people, though, have gone over to using a Greater dragon (which is 5 slots) for many things.

Also, if your character is still human, you might want to pick up some Pads of the Cu Sidhe, and have an elf tame a Cu Sidhe for you (The pads, which are boots, allow a human to ride one, but not to actually tame it from being a wild animal - that takes an elf).

uoguide's a good source, if you know what you're looking for, but like all wikis, if you don't know what to look for in the first place, you haven't a prayer of actually finding it. I've even contributed to it a little myself, but mostly to fix errors of others.

Game experience is a much better teacher than any web page guide, be it Stratics or UOGuide. if you ask around on Catskills, you'll probably find someone to give you some in-game advice that will be worth more than what you get from reading guides.

I have also just came back last time I played was 2001.

But I have lost all my stuff in my bags and bank accounts for all 4 of my Characters.

The Characters still have the Armour and weapons on them though.

Was there a big clean out that I don't know about.

I also lost my castle or was it a tower i can't remember.
