After a long break i've come back, my character I used for PvM before is

120 Swords
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Magery
100 Poisoning
100 Resist
94ish Healing

With all the arties and armour etc, Resist is at 115, I got reasonable stamina and mana regen, and stats show

str 100
dex 142
int 52

I used to stand around in poison fields slashing away with an reasonable ssi double axe with 40% hit lightening, generally killing most things. Switching to stamina and mana leechers when I needed to. Toughest things I could kill solo were Balrons and Paragon Titans.

My question is... is poisoning still any good? And what do you think I could kill solo if I was brave enough? Also what should I change or add to really take on the hard stuff?

IMO?

Poison isnt very effective for the points put into it, when with 120 ninjutsu you can use deadly poison shurikens for free!

It's nice as a mage in spawns for DP fields, but really chivalry would be a great addition.

Im amazed you can kill balrons with that template! do you use summons too to tank?

falvour of the last 5 years for melee has been samurais, and specificaly samurai in vamp form. I wouldn't say it's your only option, but is a great one for high end PVM. Also there i a thread on this page about a mystic dexxer...

Really poisoning seems more PVP to me and even then is countered with pots. Magery is fun to have but how much can you really cast with ~50 int?
Resist again is more for PVP or fighting necro monsters (doom) and can be replaced by orange petals, dart trap boxes etc etc.

Theres loadsa info on what people can do and do do (hurhur doodoo) just sift through the threads buddy :)

Trying to solo Balrons is rather stressful. I would lead them away down one of those rocky paths near the chaos shrine, rough them up a bit, heal, retreat, refresh pot, attack again. I took them on when I was trying to get "Knight of Honor" status.

That GM magery was helpful with scrolls for restoring dead people, and sometimes I'd swap to a mage weapon bow, with -23 magery, 40% hit lightning chance and 40% Damage increase. Then offset the -23 magery with a ring and bracelet so it would return to 100.

It was fun to see others try and work out how I could have deadly poisoned an orge lord, summoned an EV, finished him off with a melee attack and deal with his orge buddys with a few shots from a bow. Jack of all trades, but master of none I guess.

That sounds harsh about the Ninjas getting deadly poison, spent ages getting to GM poisoning.

Well I think I'll go read up on how to become the latest Paly vamp ninja nox mage mystic dexter scribe.... :)

Most pps that solo balrons use feint special, & evade when need to. I agree with Garm on poison. Poison never been good for PvM, & its use in PvP is questionable against anyone that knows what there doing.

For pvm I prefer Sampires, & wraith form. Stone forms also good, but it kills pretty slow.

hey you could always try a new disco warrior - ditch magery and poison for music and disco, and leech mana to maintain the new spellsong....

know the feeling about poison. took ages to get there and then i realised it was rubbish. it's still on my mage for that reason, but is a waste of skillpoints sadly.

For pvm I find a vamp archer paladin or wraith archer paladin works really well.
Also have a bardmage and a mysticmage and they also work really well. If you want details just pm.

Aside from poisoning not being useful for PvM, magery is placing some limitations on you without giving you much benefit in return. Without eval and with low intelligence, not even mind blast will give you good offensive spell damage. Moreover, you are limited to SC weapons and lrc armor. Also, my opinion is that resist is unneeded for PvM encounters. Simply carry a single trap box and use the chivalry spell "remove curse."

I think that you would be happier with a more traditional template, such as this:

120 Swords
120 Parry
120 Bushido
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
90 Heal
70 Chiv
