Returned player looking for warrior advice

So i've been back playing uo for about a month now. I've squared away my t-hunter (can solo up to lvl 5s so far) and I have a good fisher. I even got my first ancient SOS this weekend!

Having said that, i have some gold flowing in finally. I'm also working on a crafter, slowly.

I want to make a PvM character. I've been reading a lot of Corwins guides here on the forums. I've also done some "googling". And a lot of it seems to be written years ago.

I have an archer but i don't have the gold that it seems to take to make a good suit, or to get the most out of them. What I would really like to be able to do is solo so champ spawns, farm without a high overhead cost like ammo etc. So my next thought was warrior (non archer type)

I've looked at power scrolls etc. I play on Atlantic. I can get a 120 mace fighting scroll for 150k. Cheapest swords I saw this weekend was 6mil. And then i still need tactics, anatomy, etc.

So i'm wondering if mace fighting can get me where I wanna go? Or should I be looking at a tamer or mage variant to do champ spawns? I thought about making a thrower as well but i'm not sure I want to worry about maintaining that specific range all the time (not completely apposed). My account is only 12 months old so that will affect my builds. My older account I can't seem to locate.

I'd say yes to mace fighting. Just for mace fighting you'll use war axe(I think) instead of broadsword. 1 level slower, so you won't get 100 leeches on it, but also need to concern with less SSI or stamina. On a per hit basis you'll leech an average of maybe 2-3 less mana, but my chained AIs on my guy with a broadsword (100% HML, max damage, 55% HML, but NOT the extra 5 mana cost reduction from bush+parry+weapon), and I tend to leech more mana than I need. Granted, I have a few MR on my suit too, but just a few. So since you'd need 30 less stam (or fewer SSI) you ought to be able to make it up by adding more MR to your suit to stay filled up.

I have a vampire paladin type template (0 bushido), which puts me in somewhat the minority, in that I rely on my shield having nice properties, and a Sampire obviously doesn't.

yeah just use Waraxe for your weapon.. You can AI if the leech is not working good enough for a quick fill. my mace can chain pretty well.

Hit mana and stam.. On weapon. Vamp mode for life.

The use black staff for the lower levels of a champ spawn.. You can do whirlwind. Which blows thru a group quick. You can chain it all day.

Great thanks for the responses. I'll go with mace for now.

As far as gear goes. It looks like I need hit Stam and hit mana leach. What other properties should I been looking for on my weapons?

What kind of armor should I go with? Plate? Bone? Or do I need to go with leather? Obviously I'll want max resists, what else is important to have?

Sorry for all the questions. Last I played it was neigh impossible to max resists!

I'm thinking I'll prob go with the bush/chiv builds I've seen in Corwins suggestions.

My weapons all look like:
Slayer (most are super slayer)
HML
HSL
HLA
DI

I'd say this is pretty standard for the AI weapon.

For your WW weapon you don't really need the HLA since those things are all going to only take 1-2 swings anyway. Depending on the use, I like to put a hit area on the WW weapon.

Some of the questions you're asking make me wonder how closely you've read Corwin's guides. Since there are several exhaustive posts written about how to build armor, I will refrain from rehashing here.

I will say that Bone = no, as it's a real pain to make (since you needs BONES), and has no benefits over anything else. The consensus is not leather for a standard sampire.

I started doing champ spawns with my swordsman, doing whirlwind on lower levels and AI on the boss.

Now I use my archer exclusively. I use a magical shortbow with hit area damage for all levels, then a composite bow for AI on the boss. I can solo almost all champ spawns. I really hate the undead spawn. You are going to definitely want a ranged character doing Mephitis or Rikktor.

I agree with the mods on the weapon:
Super Slayer
Hit mana leech
Hit stamina leech
Hit area for shortbow/Hit lightning for comp. bow
Damage Increase

For gear I would stick to non-medable studded leather, hide armor or bone. This gives a max bonus to lower mana cost.
For mods I would say:
Resist
Resist
Stamina Increase
Mana Increase
LMC

Do you mind sharing your build with me? How many arrows do you go through in a spawn you think?

Skills:
120 Archery
110 Tactics
110 Anatomy
100 Healing
100 Necromancy
100 Bushido
85 Chivalry

Gear:
I have gear that has been Reforged, Refined and Imbued. I refined it for increased resists, with reduced DCI cap.
75 Phys
75 Phys
72 Cold
72 Poison
80 Energy

You don't have to have the increased resists refinement though. A full 70s resist will be sufficient.

Having High Dexterity is important for quicker heals. And remember cross healing times are half that of self heals. (So 4 second self heals and 2 second cross heals) Two archers cross healing each other is very effective.

When I solo the spawn, at low levels I will target a bunch of spawn and drag it in a group. My hit area takes them down pretty fast. Remember that some spawn can have a slayer type on a talisman too. For example the Baracoon spawn is effective with a flame slayer talisman (for the hell hounds) and a Repond slayer weapon. Then use a Vermin slayer talisman for the rest of the ratmen spawn and especially for the boss.

If you can get some weapons imbued for the specific mob type, your damage will help out on 2nd and 3rd spawn levels. An ophidian, terethan, spider bow are helpful.

If I solo a spawn I'll go through about 500-800 arrows, depending on the spawn. I usually carry 3 full quivers with me. If I am doing a spawn with guild mates, I might only go through 150-250.

If you're on Pacific, hit me up in general chat and I'll do what I can to help you out.

You can make a thrower:
- Gargish artifacts are cheaper (especially the veil with 10 res and 5 throwing).
- You don't spend arrows.
- You can hit twice with a boomerang. (50% hit area - on low levels)
- You can get all max res without any imbued res (I advice to refine 75-75-70-70-75)

Drawbacks are low range and low weapon max imbuing intensity (500).

Thank you both. I think I'm just going to make a thrower and see if I like it more than the archer that I already have. I've been kind of bouncing back and forth on what I want to do. If not I'll look into the archer.

And Leira thank you for the offer I am playing on Atlantic. I just went there due to population.

When you're done, post your thoughts on ease of play, and such between archer vs thrower. I've got an archer that I used to play a lot, but now he's been mothballed for months. I just find my paladin/vamp SO much easier to play: I just get in there and start AI/WW until something dies, generally speaking. Don't need to worry about running out of ammo, or keeping moving so as to not get hit.

I'm really kicking around the idea of going with the Disco/Archer template to see how I like that.

My archer sampire build is nearly identical to my swords sampire, only difference besides weapon choice is I swapped parrying for Healing. 4 second bandies helps tremendously, especially since there is a cure chance at 2 seconds and I can bandie even if paralyzed. Again, if you're not cross healing, you're doing it wrong.

I prefer my archer at champs because I have greater survivability on higher levels. Whirlwind has very little benefit when facing 2 mobs. But being able to hit a Terethan Matriarch or Dread Spider from a distance is beneficial. As an archer, I take less melee damage, plus Rikktor is a push over for a ranged character. And since Baracoon and Neira don't move, you can range attack and not take any melee damage at all.

I have tried both an archer and a thrower at champs. I seem to do more damage as an archer, consequently leech more life/mana/stamina.
