Resource Scripting… A simple fix

This pertains to script mining and script lumberjacking, which seems to be the scrpts that have the greatest return for little effort.

First you must understand how most of these scripts work. There are two kinds.

1) Stand in one spot and chop or mine that spot over and over. When you are close to your max weight, recall home and dump, recall back and wait for respawn (not very efficient but it works).

2) You have rune books with marked resource spots. Recall to a spot. Chop or mine that spot out, recall to next spot, when close to max weight, recall home and dump, recall back, rinse and repeat.

Both of these type scripts have two thing in common. Spawn rates, and the repeat of the same tree or trees.

To stop the scripting, change the spawn rate of the trees or ore spots to once every 4 to 6 hours.

Q) How does this affect the legit Miner or Lj?

A) It doesn’t. With random spawns now, you have the same chance of getting good wood from one tree as you do with the next tree. If you do find a nice tree, you can mark it and come back later and get some more. Most Lj's and miners I know are survey mining and chopping. They chop or mine a spot and move on. So this change wouldn't effect them at all.

But with this change you might want to up the rarer wood type spawn rates a little bit. One frostwood board out of a thousand is way to low (just my opinion).

What do you all think?

Ehh... They'd just mark more runes to be able to complete the circuit and not miss a beat. Maybe even have a few sets of runebooks marked that they swap out on a trip home. Easy countermeasures, don't really think it'd work.

I can mine out every cave on a fact in 30-40 minutes. So how exactly does a 4-6 hour timer not affect me?

Man you must be fast.

There are over 80 caves per shard. Are you going to mine all of them out? And what about all the mountains?

If you can mine that fast why do we have a scripting problem then?

Actually, anyone can do that. It's pretty easy if you have rune/fire beetle, and KR or UOA.

Secondly, with this kind of timer, you're assuming that:

1) There are few to no other miners except script miners
2) All caves/locations are easily accessible and all miners have fighting skills for the ones that aren't.

And finally, the most egregious of your assumptions: The scripting problem isn't a result of REAL miners not being able to get the resources they need. The problem is, scripters can mine a LOT MORE, 24/7 without rest, and sell it cheaper (For gold or cash) and in bulk. This flubs up the economy, cheapens the work of honest miners, and ultimately leads to actions like randomizing ore spawns, because they were mining so much of the "rare" resources, that they were as common as Iron, which ultimately has larger imbalance implications for crafting as a whole.

I don't think a timer is the solution.

The *majority* of the macro miners out now all run recall/sacred journey based scripts. That cycle through a optionally endless amount of runebooks. If the majority of macroers for various resources have the same actions and behaviour, wouldnt it be best to put some sort of timer in mining/chopping/skinning etc, and recalling? Or something to stop the recall in, mine, drop off, recall back etc. macro behaviour.

Cause I mean, dont the honest, by hand miner or lumberjack, use a pet or something, recall into a location, and mine everything they can until all thier pets are full?
