resisting Spells Skill

Is the resisting spells skill useful on a mage/tamer for PVM?

I have:
Mag
Eval
Med
Taming
Animal Lore
Vet

Should I add resist or go for 120 in the above 6 skills?

You can get by without resist. You'll need to remember however that you need to do something about paralyze, curse, and the rest of the debuff spells that monsters love to cast on you.

I personally carry at least 100 on most of my templates, even for pvm.

My Doomer wouldn't leave home without it. Folks say i'm crazy, but I have better things to do with my time and mana then spam cure on myself. RS also cuts down the duration time and damage of some other spells. But I play a mage bard.

Now for your question regarding a tamer. I could never really spare the points on my tamer. Again, bard/tamer. Guess it could be done, just not for me on that char.

Did that help at all? prob not, sorry.

In this special case, you should sacrifice Resisting Spells for getting the others to 120. For the Mage part, you can deal out more damage and the Tamer part can control much more powerful pets.

Whether you generally need Resisting Spells or not is a strategic decision.

As a Tamer, your pet should be the one to take the damage - that's the main idea behind it. Experienced Tamers take care that their pets are always between them at the monsters. This is not easy though in a multiple spawn area but with quick moves and clever use of Invis spell it can be done. Just don't draw any attention on you and you should be fine without Resisting Spells skill. Either way, Wither and the other area spells remain dangerous for Tamers because they will make the monster switch target to you.

As a Mage-Tamer however, you surely want to deal out some additional damage - else high Magery or Eval Int would be a waste. In return, monsters will possibly change focus on you. When a mana drain, paralyse or poison spell hits you, your vision can get grey very fast because your ability to cast is reduced. In this case high Resisting Spell skill really helps to shrug off the negative effect.

If affected by this, set the pet on your attacker and run away, heal/invis and return to your pet. Protection can be an option to cast spells without interruption but it slows down casting rate. Don't use it if you cast Greater Heal frequently on your pet.

I have the exact tamer template like that and all 120. Like mentioned already, a tamers armor/weapon/shield is his pet.
You just need to learn not to get targeted yourself.

Invis spell is my friend ;)

Don't forget to carry a trapped box so you can break paralyze and you probably want to cast magic reflection on yourself as often as possible, to reflect what's being cast on you back at the caster.

Uhh... Magic reflect hasn't reflected spells back on the caster, in almost 6 years.

All it does is increase elemental resists while lowering physical resist, ever since the AoS AR/Resist change occurred.
