Request to change Spellweaving Gift of Life

Many spellweavers find it a little annoying that sometimes the Gift of Life just runs out 5 seconds before you die. It is Murphy's Law. It would be great if the Gift of Life could be renewed anytime (just like the Bless spell), so you can re-cast it before engaging a big PvM fight.

It would not influence game balance at all, and remove an annoyance.

Edit - 2 more suggestions:

1) Cooldown timer for ethereal voyage and gift of renewal based on skill level
2) The message you get when you recast before cooldown expires should state how much longer you have to wait.

though I will be giving my 120 spell weaving to my tamer , its hard times finding circles when your 120 nowadays

There should be a buff icon... and there is one. Also, if you are using KR with the recent Mod, you also get a timer on the icon showing how much time is left on the gift-of-life. So, what the Ops is suggesting isn't really needed because you can tell when it is about to run out.

Yes, there is a buff icon, even in 2D. There also is a buff icon for Bless. And if you single-click on it, are lucky and have about 10 seconds time, it will even show the remaining time. But what does it help me, when the timer runs out exactly in the middle of a fight? Nothing.

I should be able to refresh the spell before a fight. I have no idea what should be wrong with this wish.

Not only the timer but the spell reads it protects the caster FROM death. I have always died then been given a rez gump. To rez me I must DIE.... It does not protect FROM death as stated. I would like to see it hit the hard cap of 0 on your HP , and give a instant say 30 hp then fizzle out. I do think there should be a timer on the recasting of it, if it worked the way stated.
Refreshing the spell before it fails falls into the same type tweak that Incong,disguise kits and other morph spells that allow no way to drop the effect.
All of these need a small icon/timer and refresh option.

Gift of life is a great spell I use it all the time. I agree with the OP about recasting anytime I want. Another thing that would be nice is if we could move out of the area(before the res kicks in) when we die because if you die around a mob of monsters as soon as you res you die again anyway.

From what I recall there is no timer. When Gift of Life wears off, you cast re cast it.

Did they make a change to this?

I really don't care about the timer, I know it only last for so long. Personally I would rather have it so I could walk out of a mob of monsters and rez with it in a safe location. They way it works now you usually end up waiting for the monsters to go away or just die when you rez.

So basically this thread is asking to be able to continually cast GoL to make sure it never runs out in a fight, then make it so that you don't actually die (Losing Fame or Karma) by bumping you maybe 30 hp just as you die, and then make it so you can ghost away from the fight to rez? I can't imagine why this would be a bad idea, especially for PVP. NO impact to the faction side either.

This is how UO explained the spell to work.. Learn a little before telling us it's a bad idea. It was stated that this was the way it would work. PREVENTS DEATH..
I added the 30 HP idea due to needing a way to make the spell work as stated.

If the spell did keep the caster from deaths door, then a delay in reapplication would need to be implemented. The one for ethereal voyage is an example.

I agree. I also like the idea of a message telling me how much longer before I can recaste attunement or gift of renewal when I try to recaste.

There is zero delay for re-casting Gift of Life after it wears off.... Perhaps you are thinking Gift of Renewal, where it heals you a little at a time?


What REALLY bugs me about Gift of Life is that the resurrection menu pops up the second you die. Almost pointless... Just die to spawn and get insta rez'd where you died, just to be rez-killed. It would be nice if you had a 10 second or so period so you can run to safety as a ghost before the menu pops up.

Just to clarify,

Yes there's no delay to recast GOL once it expires. What we mean is the ability to recast it before it expires and thus have the timer refresh, just like the arcane circle spell, or some chiv/necro spells.

Right now, when you recast GOL and target yourself, it just says that you are already protected and doesn't do anything else.



Regarding actually dying as opposed to giving you a hp buffer once it reaches 0 - I think it's more balanced the way it is right now.

You actually die and lose fame/insurance/possibly have items looted from your corpse etc. The spell shouldn't prevent you from that.

I thought of that too, but if it comes up during cast attempt, you'll have a problem using gol/gor on your pets.

The only thing i dont like about the spell is that, if you become a criminal you cant take the res at that time...fine...but once you turn blue again the spell doesnt kick in.

Ive never had a problem with it running out before i die (usually because when im on a tamer i dont die often) and even so im still checking the icon when i cast it and then towards the end to find out how long i have.

yes, I understood what you meant... would be nice and there are a couple other spells like that - Divine Fury for Chivalry does the same thing. It's a drawback, but working as intended I think. As I said before, if you are using the KR client with the BBE interface, there is a timer on the icon to tell you when it will run out and I "almost" never get surprised by it running out.... almost never.

Divine Fury does not reset if recast. You get the boost in Stamina of course, but the timer for it does not reset. It used to, but stopped doing so when they messed with Chiv spell delays.

I would personally say that out of all the skills in the game SW is the most balanced (possibly not as balanced as crafting but then why cant you 120 carp or fletch?), aside form the minor annoyance of the gift of life not attemptiong to res when you go blue after it says you are a criminal and cannot be ressurected AT THIS TIME. Id say that all spells,

Actually i lied, arcane empowerment needs a look into as it DOESNT affect the power of your summons...at all. Other than that though its fine.

Just my opinion anyways.
