Request for silly pet users

As players gain in native resistance when they gain magic resist skill, might it be possible for silly pets to gain in the same way.
By silly pets, I mean things like cats, dogs, squirrels, ferrets, sheep, cows and maybe horses and llamas, which are highly unlikely to be useful in PvP.
It would be very nice to go roaming with these little creatures if they had enough resists not to die if something big sneezes at them, or even looks at them funny.

No biggie if it would be too hard, or take up valuable development time, just fun.

Train the skills up to max and they can be quite tough... I've seen a ferret beat a group of 5 lizardmen and an ettin. :)

Yes my ferret is up to ogres now so with training you can get any silly pet to be your tank. If I remember correctly someone showed a pic of his chicken after it took a dragon

Well I have a Chicken that is GM in all skills possible for a chicken and 125 STR and 125 DEX and 120 Int and it can not take on a dragon unless that dragon is being continually peaced and it is discorded.

Although you can get a pet's stats/skills up to something semi-practical - even raise it's base damage a bit - the resists can't ever be touched.

A player with GM resist will have a minimum of 40 resist in each elemental type (which does not stack with armor, of course).

A weak pet, on the other hand, might have minimal phys resists, and no elemental resists.

Though many monsters deal physical damage, so even if your chicken DID get a Spell Resist boost, it'll still be taking near full melee damage off eg. Dragons.

While I reckon a chicken could potentially defeat a Dragon, I reckon it'd need multiple players on healing duty.

(I was going to go with a Rabbit for my "silly pet", but I ended up training my Imprisoned Dog up. To my dissapointment, it seems incapable of learning weapon skills, but it does gain resistances from any armor it wears. Mongbats are also a favourite. ML added a few silly pets, I wonder if SA will too?)

Edit: Note that there are quite a few "high end" creatures that'd benefit from this sort of thing too. For example, Arctic Ogre Lords and White Wyrms. Nightmares especially.

Yeah, one of my hobbies is training wierd pets. I've trained a Giant Ice Worm (Pretty useful when paired with a 4 slot pet, does DP), Neon Pink Rabbit, Savage Ridgeback, Black Horse (Faction Guard Horse), Grizzled Mare (Too bad they don't do Chaos Breath), Paroxysmus' Swamp Dragon (Kind of useful), SL War Horses, Giant Beetles and Fire Beetles (These are actually pretty nasty when trained). Thought about training a Golem, but they're just too damn fragile now and don't Bond, so would be a waste of time if it died.

Trainable resists would be great, and a good incentive for the use of (or simply keeping) no-requirement pets. Being able to walk around with a "pet" pet, not a "weapon" pet, without it dying to a stiff breeze, would be good.

I have seen what a pack of untrained wolves can do now if you had a pack of wolves would be unstopable.

If I remember the details correctly, once upon a time pet stats weren't capped, and it was not illegal to keep trapped pets in your house. I remember one guild that used a polar bear to spar with, trapped in a corner with boxes. After a few months of training, they took the bear out to whack dragons with, and it never died. Those were the days before pet bonding, too!
