Rented Vendors disappear!?

Recently the house of a friend went into decay. In this context I got a message as vendor owner, that the house is in danger or something like that. Friend renewed and house refreshed and I did check the vendors for some time, since they had more representative than sales function.
Visited the house again now, and the vendors where gone.
Sure enough, they were in the moving crate, together with checks which would have paid them for a good two years.
When did this change and why?
Can the old status be reestablished without the need to renew some contract manually?

I recently had a vendor fall into the moving crate on a house I own (but the vendor owner was a co-owner from my other account). The house never went into decay and both accounts were active. The vendor had almost 30M gold on it. No idea what happened.

I have had some of my bod book vendors do the same... not all mind you just odd numbers and they were in the crate money and all.
