let us not all forget to take 5 minutes today to remember the events 7 yrs ago today. Where we where when we heard about it and our reaction. Let us say a little prayer for the victims and their families.

Remember those lost that day and those lost since. Please don't respond to other posts, lets keep this one as civil as possible.

I had retired 10 days prior and was on my way to Ft. Jackson to pick up dental records I had forgotten. Heard about the first plane on the radio, at the dental clinic turned the television in the waiting room and saw the second one hit. Called the Pentagon to speak to a friend, was on the phone when the building was struck. Very bad day.

Let us also remember our men and women who proudly serve in the Armed Forces. Even though we might not all agree on the politics, I think we should all show much respect to these guys and gals!

Was in high school gym class.. Mr. MacKnighter told us about what had happened at the beginning of class.. most of us were like "yea right, your full of it" (we didnt know, dont have TVs in the school)

Then we realized he was being serious after class, and were like *whoa*

They closed Woodfield shopping mall for the rest of the day too. I show up for work (thinking its still open) and like 3 security cars surrounded me..

One of two all-day-marathons watching CNN for me.

The other was when we invaded.

I was still living in California. Me and my girls were gettin on the bus, I forget where we were goin but I remember the bus driver sayin *If you're plannin on goin to the mall, forget it, it's closed.* And I remember asking why...someone said because a plane crashed in New York...and I thought..why would they close a mall here because a plane crashed in New York??

It was right when it happened and noone really knew....I got off the bus and went into Walgreens and there was about 30 people all standing around watching a TV....I remember watching as the second plane hit....I just sat down on the floor right in the middle of walgreens and held my children tight in my lap, tears pouring down my face in shock not really beleiving what we were seeing.

My friend Doug is a Firefighter In New York and his ladder was the first on the scene....I didn't hear from him for weeks and I thought he had died. Thankfully he called me 3 weeks later....he was exhausted....but safe.

I still cry....7 years later I still cry...those images will be etched in my memory forever.

I have all the Newspapers from then...when it happened, the invasion after...Big bold headlines....one day when my children are older we'll talk about what happened that day...just as my mother told me about where she was and how she felt When JFK was assissinated....

I'm in DC and I was near the pentagon when the plane hit. I hold dear those people who perished that day.. both here in the US and those Iraqi's whose lives also changed that day.. although they never knew it.

I was on my way to work when I heard it first on the radio. When I got to work I immediately turned on the TV in my boss' office and we watched horrified as the second plane hit the tower.

I lived near DC then and I was preparing for a trip to the Smithsonian that day. A Tuesday, I believe. I didn't usually watch a channel that would cover much news. I just happaned to walk by the TV on my way out, a little before 10am. It was a surreal feeling to say the least. Needless to say I didn't take the trip.

I was in a Caseys Store standing in line to pay for the donuts my little boy had asked to go get for him. Someone came in screaming that we were being attacked. I could tell by the look in thier eyes they were serious.

I threw the box of donuts down, ran to the car and sped home as fast I could. My daughter and young son were there safe and were watching it on TV.

All I could do was stand there in shock crying and wonder where my oldest son was at the moment. He was in the Air Force at the time and stationed in Germany. I knew there was no way I could get in touch with him.

It was a very long and scary 2 weeks until I heard from him and then he couldnt tell me where he was or what he was doing. Later I learned he was loading bombs onto the planes that were waiting for a counter attack if need be and was to be deployed to an unknown location if anything new happened.

I watched the TV 24/7 and thanked God every few minetes that it was not me and my children and that we were safe, except for one. And all the while felt guilty and selfish for such prayers.

I still feel guilty to this day for those prayers even though I also prayed for the unfortunant that perished such a tragic, and senseless death that day.

I looked at all the pictures of the people who lost thier lives flash across the screen and kept thinking "thats someones mother, or father, or brother....or someones child." It hurts just as much today as it did then.

Yes, we should respect all those who proudly put hier lifes on the line everyday just so we here at home can have that "safe" feeling.
