Ok.....I've been delaying asking this, but it had to be asked.

I would like to use this thread to get an idea if the players will generally seek to assist Moonglow, or generally assist in destroying it (like during the Magincia event).

By "destroy" I mean to refer both to a physical destruction, like Magincia, or "destruction" in the sense of rendering the city unusable as a city (like Yew for the Plague of Despair event.

Consider this thread an open-ended survey, on the narrow and specific issue of the potential destruction of Moonglow.

Will you assist the city? Or assist in its destruction?

If a similar thing in Moonglow will take place that took place in Magincia, I presume it will be completely destroyed. People know a lot of money is to be made with rubble.
So I hope there will be no rubble (and I don't say this as a rares collector) and that we will be rewarded for defending the town.
I will try and defend as much as possible regardless

If the event is going to happen the way it was tested...if it IS in fact THAT event....of which we only tested a small part, there's no need to fear....the city, as WE know it, was not destroyed.....yet it was it's alternate self from another...time...and place.....that was ravaged.

IT would be my hope that they could find some way to promote "good" over evil in this event.... and if they did anything remotely similar to the Magincia event I would hope that NO rubble were to spawn or be collected .... But rewards given for saving the city instead.... If there is a way to do that I do not know.... but I would much rather see that than to have an event like Magincia again.

Why does everyone hate rubble so much? If a town get's destroyed, we should get something....

Why are you even asking? It's already been said that Moonglow is not destined to meet the same fate as Magincia.

Please don't destroy Moonglow. I have lived there all my UO life since back in 2001. It the best city in our world IMO with its landmarks and its character. Quests are great, but please leave the island and it's city intact.

I think it's as simple as :

A = Reward for saving Moonglow but no reward for destroying it.
B = Reward for destroying Moonglow but no reward for saving it.
C = Reward for either outcome.
D = No reward for either outcome.

IF A, the players will save Moonglow.
IF B, the players will let Moonglow rot.
IF C, the players will gravatate to which result generates the accepted higher value reward.
IF D, the players will not care.

Note when I say "players" I mean the general population of all players in general. Certainly there will be saviors and slaughterers in any scenerio.

Just saw the Herbal Splendor shop. This is depressing. Why are you ruining our city? I don't know if I wanna play anymore.

Why am I even asking.....Well, the following come to mind.

1. I didn't know about K's post until you linked to it.

2. If you read my initial post, you'll note that I was careful to include non-physical destruction. So let's say, for example, if we "lose" the event, Moonglow becomes a dungeon (meaning that monster spawn there). To "win" we have to kill some big monster within a certain amount of time (say 60 minutes). Players might try to lure the monster to a location where it's difficult to attack it, in an attempt to make it live past the time limit, thus "losing" us the event, and turning Moonglow into a dungeon.

K. has said, in the post you linked to,

I have it on good authority that Moonglow will not suffer the same fate as Magincia, however, Moonglow may become the starting point of something else entirely...

[/ QUOTE ]

The "same fate" may specifically refer to being destroyed physically.

She specifically leaves open the possibility that the town may be destroyed in some other way. (I think I'm prepared to consider close proximity to a new, dangerous dungeon as "destruction" in some broader sense.)

The question is thus an open one.

I am, through this thread, attempting to gauge of my fellow UO players will help the city, or assist in its damage or downfall.

To paraphrase something Draconi said about Magincia, are we this time prepared to forego material reward in order to win the event?

It's my starting point for finding out what's really happening rather than just all the rumours, moans and pleas.

Everything that's been posted by anyone from EA, I've read it. I also make sure I read HoC logs and town hall reports. That way I know when someone's trying to pull the wool over my eyes and when someone has gotten hold of the wrong end of the stick.
My hubby expects me to have all the answers.

The answer is not quite so simple, but it is simple.

If we have an event where spawn is for instance. People will not need a physical reward if they see something happen for their effort. If, instead, there is endless spawn with no visible change then there is less and less reason to continue.

The way it works and has worked in the past is people lose interest when they don't have some sense of accomplishement. This accomplishment can be in the form of artis, rubble, or even the ability to push back opponents. It's my opinion if players were given a way to judge how a battle of those proportions is going they wouldn't need to have some type of physical reward. Sure, some will but the majority will be there to have fun.

This is not to say that creating a tangible reward is a bad thing. I just don't think it's always a necessity to get people motivated to do something. The point I'm making is people want to feel that they have not wasted their time. Killing spawn for hours on end with no reward of any kind is not going to driver players to continue.

Nope!
Bring on the loot, and lots of it!

Of course, as previous posters have mentioned, if the loot is gained BY winning the event, I'll be the most virtuous warrior you've ever seen in your virtual life. But if it's a case of evil = profit, then sign me up for evil. *waves the yay evil sign*

Why do we hate rubble? some of it was so rare it was pretty much if not one of a kind. The prices people charged for it was insane and still is. Because rubble was handed out from this it encouraged destruction rather than any effort to save the city. It left magincia a static disaster rather than an actual "destroyed" city.

I could go on but I am just going to stop there.

As much as I love rubble, I also love Moonglow. Lived there long ago when I started on Chessy. I hope it's not destroyed OR if it is we (the players) can rebuild it.

Dang... wonder if I have to move my crafter out of Moonglow. I'm guessing this is where the SA portal will be...

The blackrock detector was put on hold just about the same time as the SA expansion. Seems to me the Moonglow event is a prelude to the SA release.

By the way, the testing they did showed a very deadly time-shifted Moonglow. Strip down to PvP light before going there, you might not get anything back.

Although this does seem perfectly reasonable, I would point out that even if all unfolds as we suspect, we don't know what will happen when the event is finished. (*points at Old/New Haven*)

If the SA expansion is still in the works, that makes sense.

But that's only an if.

Do you mean insurance doesn't work (eep! that would suck), or do you mean that you'll likely lose any un-insurable resources, such as gold, bandages, and orange petals?

Also do you have more detail on the time-shifted Moonglow? How did you know it was time-shifted, and not just a parallel universe or something, for example? And what was there?

I remember posts from the time. But that was awhile ago.

Well, I myself and many friends live there. I shall fight and fight and fight for Verity Island, and many friends that do not live on the island will fight for it too.
Moonglow has been invaded more than any other city of Sosoria, at least on Chesapeake shard, - Ophidians, Ant Queen Wars, Undead.

Every time from across the shard, peoples banded together to save the island, just as we band together to save other areas as well. I'm even ready to bonk some Dev's heads if they mess with my island too much.
