Is it true that Luck is calculated at the time a monster dies?

I'm thinking about "swapping-out" a couple of clothing items just before a monster dies and don't want to waste my time if this isn't true...

Good question. I was always under the impression luck was taken into account when the monsters corpse was actually opened.
