Hey, I'm a new player, new char, new Stratics member,

I'm curious about runic kits,
Is it better to use a runic kit on a regular leather piece and then enhance it? That is what I heard.

I did a small analysis with a spined kit that showed it made little/no difference to the final resists.

If this has been rehashed a million please point to the post. Sorry for the laziness.

Also, any opinions on Crystal, my tailor?
Tailoring - 120
Arms Lore - 100
Inscription - 100
Magery - 105
Eval. Int. - 105
Meditation - 105
Wrestling - 65

She is a tailor, so I never want anything that will trump "Legendary Tailor" but I'll tell you it is my first mage character and I love kicking ass with magic. I never play my warrior anymore.
Part of that is due to me switching to KR and not wanting to leave my house until I got comfortable. As a result, Crystal got all the macros set up and I never really went back to set up poor William's!!

Yes this has been hashed out numerous times over the years.

Basically, the success chance for enhancing is so low that you'll destroy 8 out of 10 items you attempt to enhance.

Craft with the special leather or ingot and leave enhancing for loot.

Your tailor there looks fine. She's got enough mage skills there to kick some butt if you want her too. I'd carry around a tinker trapped crate if you plan on fighting any spell casters. Otherwise drop the wrestling and train up magic resist.

Your characters displayed title depends upon skill level, alphabetical order of skill names and locked or unlocked, in that order I believe. So if you were say also legendary blacksmith, your displayed title would say so, unless you locked blacksmith skill and left equal tailoring skill unlocked. That would cause your character to display Legendary Tailor. Did that make sense?

My first character was a tailor, and I was going to keep them that way but I met someone who wanted to teach me how to fight, so she turned into a swordswoman. After a while I got tired of buying recall scrolls so I made a mage next to make them for me, then I loved playing my mage so much I stopped playing my swordswoman. And then I made a bard on siege cause I wanted more of a challenge, and after a long time decided to turn them into a tamer...and then made a tamer on baja cause I liked the character etc etc...

What I'm trying to say is that you have at least 5 character slots, and while you don't have to do this, sometimes it works better if you try to keep certain skill sets on different characters. I have to log my mage on baja in to scribe stuff, then log them out to craft anything else on my crafter, it's kind of a pain in the booty. It's also easier getting bods and enhancing items if its all on the same character. And with magery on different character you can pick up other skills that are compatible with fighting monsters.

But do what you feel comfortable doing. I know that I agonized over dropping my 90+ tailoring on my swordswoman so I could add another skill to her template, much better if I had raised it on my crafter to begin with.

I agree with Ezekiel Zane. Craft the item from the colored leather of choice. Enhancing will lead to disaster most of the time.

When it comes to characters, I don't believe in combining a crafter with an adventurer. You end up with 1 character that's only mediocre at both.

After all, you have at least 5 character slots, so you might as well use them.

I'd Soulstone off Tailoring and Lore and put them onto a brand new character. Then I'd add Tinkering, Blacksmith, Mining, and some other crafting skills.

On my mage, I'd add Magic Resist and Parry or Anatomy.
