i have started seeing this alot now.
movies released in redbox match a movie in theaters but with slightly different name.
war horse - dark horse
red riding hood - red werewolf hunter
aliens vs cowbows - alien armageddon (very simular pic)
puss in boots - puss in boots: a furry tail
snakes on a plane - snakes on a train
transformers - transmorphers
day the earth stood still - day the earth stopped
10,000 bc - 100 million bc
40 yr old virgin - 18 yr old virgin
high school musical - sunday school musical
war of the worlds - war of the worlds 2: the next wave

Bizarre. Are these made specificlly for RedBox/TV/Netflix release?

i think it is directors of cheap studios are purposly looking for big budget movies and quickly making a "like" movie to capitalize on their fame and get people to rent their movie by mistake.

yes they are made for dvd movies. straight to renting.
