[Bowcraft/Fletching] Recipies

Hi.
Well. Working a second fletcher. Since my first was completed long ago I thought I'd make another to gain Armslore at the same time and to make use of the heartwood quests (though I find them very boring). So I buy the skills Arms lore and fletching up to 33.3 and 34.4 (don't remember which was which) in New Haven and couldn't find where Basara got them to 40.
Started the Heartwood quests, 2 or 3 pack animals a day full of logs (I'm in no great hurry here). So now I'm up to 58.2 with fletching, and took a look what recipes I have from these quests then checked UOGuide to see how many there are.

Barbed Longbow
Slayer Longbow
Frozen Longbow
Longbow of Might
Ranger's Shortbow
Lightweight Shortbow
Mystical Shortbow
Assassin's Shortbow

These ones I got quite quick and several of each of them.

Blight Gripped Longbow
Silvani's Feywood Bow
The Night Reaper

Found I had these of the artifact recipes too.

Is it usual to get these so quick or have I just been lucky?

I think I haven't done as many quests as you but the top bunch of recipes are common and I haven't been able to get the night reaper or fey slayer recipe yet (sigh). I go back every couple of months and run through a couple packies full of boards. Sounds like maybe you were a little lucky or maybe that's about par. Then I also go with my smith trying to get the twinkling scimitar and the butchers war cleaver. Then I go with my tinker trying to get pendant of the Magi and Essence of battle. Then sometimes I take a long break from it and do something more fun.

I think somewhere along the line, they nerfed some of the skill buy-ups from 40 back down to 33.3.

You still got to find a bowyer to get that skill (no accelerated gain quest for it yet, so no 40 point training), but 30 is sufficient to start crafting for the "a simple bow" quest.

I had all my recipes by 70 skill, IIRC. Also got 1 oak runic (then it took me 2 years, and starting to train arms lore with my fletcher last year, to get any more)

BTW, here's some board math.

1 full packy = 10 boards short of 23 "A simple Bow" or "Ingeneous Archery I" quests. Can have up to 5.
Most crafters go for high STR so figure 430 boards in the crafter's pack for 6 more quests, and the 10 boards for the 23rd quest using the boards on the packy, if just using 1 packy.

If one uses bless, +STR equipment, rose petals, pots, etc. (easier for a human than an elf) theoretically one can go 540 boards (7 quests + the extra 10 for FIVE packies), since the back can hold 550 stone, for 112 quests, but odds are you wouldn't have the room for the TOOLS you need to fill that many quests (you'd need 5 tools, averaging 224 uses each, or 4 averaging 280 each) and still have rune/spell books. IT would probably be easier to take 500 boards, plus a talisman of board summoning.

Note that as you get near emptying the first packy, you'll have to start unloading the junk from the satchels. I typically go 6/6/5/5/4/3 in quests, meaning I start with 430 (420 + the extra 10) in my pack, do 6 quests (KR and make 10, marking as quest item, does wonders), reload with 410 from the packy (puts me at 420) for 6 more, then 350 (5 quests, 2 times), 280 (4), and 210 (3), putting me at 29 quest done, and an empty pack animal. Under normal circumstances (i.e. the game not going crazy handing me junk in the satchels), I don't have an item weight or count problem. I then go through the satchels, dropping the junk (and moving the good stuff to either my beetle or a pouch in my backpack that can't be confused for a satchel). I then get on the beetle, use my board summoner talisman for 10 boards, and pull 410 boards off my pack horse or pack llama to start again, 6/5/5/4/3; repeat for the last packy. I get in 55 quests that way, with the beetle and 2 pack animals. Each pack animal takes about 25-30 minutes to empty, if one is doing it casually with KR. Even sorting the pack, and the extra 6 quests from your initial load, will make the 55 quests take under 2 hours - possibly even under 90 minutes if you're good at sorting.

Yes I'm in no rush really with this. I had a gm+ tailor which had several hundred wasted skill points so I'm adding blacksmith and fletcher as a way to gain arms lore too.

You are far more dedicated to these quests than I. I've been using 1 donkey carrying logs so I get an excuse to leave and have a break, though today I took 2.

Anyway as I said took 2 pack animals with 1600 logs (800 each) and 195 on me. Came back with 49 logs over. Gained to 60.3 from what I used from the 58.2 I said in the post above. Got the mischief maker from the second quest and Faerie fire from the last quest, which was my first of the small crossbow quests.
So all the recipes gathered. Think I'll try collect all the creature summoning talismans as a bit of fun.

Btw.... The furniture deeds you occasionally get. These are the same as the carpenter crafted items?

Yes, except there is one (Stone Anvil East) that appears ONLY as a deed in a bag, not as a carpentry/masonry recipe (the recipe drop is bugged)
