Does anyone know the story on the recent (as in 3 months) price escalation of all items in trade? Seems curious. Is it something to do with the collaboration of outside trader operatives?

Recent Price Escalations on Atlantic

It would seem that more demand has been created by many returning (and some new) players, due to the lockdown. The unscrupulous vendors have hiked all prices accordingly, while at the same time hoarding the cheaper items they've bought out at cheaper prices from honest vendors, just to further escalate the price.
Also all vet rewards are deleted when a house goes Idoc now.
I was wondering. Heck, I can not even find a recipe for something as simple as a Tall Elven Bed, when months ago you could find scores of various recipes at half-way decent prices. Strange times. Must be the virus.

It's mainly because coronavirus caused a LOT of new/returning players to show up out of boredom, who then bought gold, and having no idea what the prices for anything should be bought everything in sight. After a couple months of that the market hyper-inflated itself and even though most of those new people are gone the prices seem to be staying that way for a while. Plus the deletion of veteran rewards in IDOC's thing.
Makes sense. Strange time we live in, milord.
