I finally got my first one last week after killing hundreds of paragon Golems, so yeah, they're still dropping, they're just...well........rare......

Again Connor never ceases to amaze. I don't care what the question is, or what the item is that someone is trying to find out about. Connor did it last week....and has an answer full of good results...truly amazing. Don't believe me? Test him. In a week or so, make a posting about some obscure game mechanic, and I"ll guarantee you Connor will reply with "I did that last week, and it was working perfectly"....

My friend I have keeped tracked of how many Paras I have killed to get me a gear. Let me tell ya the pages are long. But they do drop. What really bugs me tho is that I finally kill a paragon and it drops a common. UGH.
Altho the gears do sell for a bit of gold which is nice. Plus everyone I know has the dawns music box. Aye there is some good info on where to hunt them. I do say ish also.
The gears do drop. It just takes many many hours and suns rising to actually get one
I got my first rare after about my 3500 or so kill. I think at least. I might of ran out of paper before then. Not sure....

I got a gear a long time ago, have not inserted it in my music box yet, since I've heard you can't sort the sound tracks. Planning to wait until I eventually get a full set before inserting them in alphabetical order.
Key word being "eventually". I tend to get lost in the Juka castle, hate it when the golem is behind a wall and I need to travel up and down floors trying to find my way to the room, only to have to deal with the other Jukas and overseers and betrayers and controllers along the way...

As to seeming to do everything just last week, I suspect he avoids commenting in threads that asks about obscure stuff he hasn't done/tested recently with positive results. That's probably why people may get the impression that a large portion of his posts is of the "I did that last week, and it was working perfectly" variety.
Also, to be honest, most of the other threads asks about stuff that's alot less obscure.

I think you are referring to the story arc where you have to turn in books of truth to one of the 4 npcs in Lycaeum, if so, you can't get it anymore...

I'm with you. I'm just going to buy them.I really planned on farming for gears eventually...but after reading this thread I might just try to buy the ones I'm missing. If I can find my music box, that is, lol.
I got discouraged from farming for gears since I can't get the Dawn's box to work right with KR. Rather, most music is messed in KR (ex. wrong songs playing) .
When they fix it and add new types of gears (hopes), then I might get excited enough to try.

Are these things a rip off though? I bought one thinking it would have the music Ultima Online had back in 1998/99 like the old Trinsic, Britian, Yew songs and so on.
The music box I bought has something like 40 common songs 10 uncommon and 1 rare but none of them are the original music that Ultima Online had.
Do those songs exsist for the box? are they just extreemly rare or do they not exsist at all anymore in the game?

All the music used in the game (including that played by the music box) can be found in MID/MP3 format in your game folder. If you can't find the tunes you're after amongst those files, then you won't find it in the box.
The only reason I collected Books of Truth back in the day was to get that one gear. I don't think I've ever listened to it though. Although I liked the music in the original Ultima games, in Ultima Online it's a bit too "gung-ho" for my tastes (especially the combat themes) so I just stick to my WinAmp playlist.

I've been killing Golems nightly for about a month now. So far I've gotten 31 of 40 Commons, 7 of 10 (I believe) Uncommons and just got my first rare 2 days ago.
Once I finish the Common and Uncommons, I might just buy the Rares I'm missing. Of course, then the next ones I come across will have those on them.

The song that was obtained by turning in the Books of Truth was "Wanderer" (no longer a quest). Nice tune, but can't hear it in KR. It plays Stones instead.

Paragon Juggernauts and Paragon Betrayers also drop the rare musicbox gears as well as Paragon Golems. Last rare I got came from Paragon betrayer, boy what nasty piece of work that was!
I believe the Devs mentioned the Wanderer gear from the book of truth quest was going to be made available in SA as well as the Redeemer sword from that quest.
I have a complete list of all gears if anyone is interested. Let me know and I will post it!

Note that one of the real indicators to me that there's something wrong with the RNG (as I've pointed out in numerous smelting ore posts) was that I got THREE rare gears (2 I needed, and a duplicate of one of those) in ONE 4-hour hunt that only had NINE Paragons, 3 months after the gears were added to the game - then went about THREE YEARS before getting another one to drop, killing thousands of paragon golems, betrayers and juggernauts along the way. Luckily those last two were the last two I needed to complete the box, before the Book event.

Oh yeah I'm sooo buying what I need if I can. Endless pvm grinding is one of the few things I have trouble doing. Especially when superspeeding paragons are involved, and there are lots of monsters around. *makes yuck face*
Well I'm down to 3 commoms, 3 uncommons and 1 rare (plus the Wanderer) needed. What I'm seeing is that once I finally get a gear I need I get several more in the next few days. But those I've had for awhile I almost never see doubles of anymore.
