Quiver of Infinity

So I've altered the quiver of infinity before with no problem, but I remember people have had problems altering it.
I started a new thrower today when I realized my altered quiver was on an inactive account, so instead of activating the old account I decided to alter another quiver. Everything went fine, the quiver turned into wing armor but I had to go, so I put it in a container and logged off. A few hours later I come back and the quiver/wing armor is nowhere to be found.
So no big loss but my question is are these still disappearing? And if so does anyone have suggestions for a successful alteration??

Thanks for the info. I did end up seeing a thread on the subject on Uhall, and someone suggested trying on a freshly claimed quiver rather than an old one.
That worked so maybe that's the way to go.
