Quit in 2001 -- want to check out UO again.

Hello,

I was a beta tester of UO and continued to play the game until 2001. I believe the last expansion I played was Third Dawn. I'm kind of curious to check out what the game is like nowadays. I have a few questions though:

1) What client should I buy? Do I have to buy it, or is it a free download? Should I just get Mondain's Legacy, and I'm good to go?
2) Does the newest expansion contain all of the material released in previous expansions? For example: if I download/buy Mondain's Legacy will I be able to use the samurai skills? Are all skill/item/other game change updates available to everyone regardless of what expansion they buy?
3) Is the new Kingdom Reborn client included in Mondain's Legacy or is that a separate download?
4) Is there currently any kind of promotion for new accounts? I noticed a 14-day free trial... should I just avail myself of that?

Anything else you think I should know before I dive in? The game has changed so much, with so many new skills, crafting, and items -- I'm sure I'll be a "newbie" all over again... and that's what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any help.

1. Free download, but a big one. Try KR, then go back to the 2d client when you can't deal with KR anymore (links in meridus' post).

2. Yes

3. KR client is a separate, but free, download

4. I'm not sure

and finally, Last year in August, I was in the same boat as you are. I had been away for 6 years (2001-2007), and came back. The game is truly 100% different than the game you left. The only thing that remains the same is some of the artwork and the old dungeon maps. There are things that are better, and things that are worse. I'll leave it to you to decide which is which.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.
