Im trying to make exploding boxes to kill people when they loot me thinking its a regular trap box.

I made regular wooden boxes(the orange ones) with keys in them.
I then with a gm tinkering i put an explosion trap on them.

Now i cant seem to get them to work for some reason. I lock them to say trap has been enabled. I thought all u did after that was put it on the ground and magic unlock it but thats not working. They just open like normal boxes.

Anyone know what im doing wrong here?

Drop the box until the graphic rotates. Turned one way the trap will work, turned the other it wont.

You are trying to test those boxes on another char besides the one who made it, right? If your tinker makes a trap box he will nott set it off under normal conditions. (If it is x-sharded or if you change name or sex of char sometimes it "forgets" who made it.)

So try using other char first. If that doesn't work, then try putting it in a box let a friend set the lock and then test with another char (besides the tinker that is).

Hope that helps.

I think you need to lock it and then pick the lock and don't open it should do the trick.

Ok so far nothing suggested is working. Ive turned the box to the direction that other boxes go off in.

I gave the box and key to my mage i locked it said trap enabled then i magic unlocked it and tried to open it on another one of my characters. The trap again didnt go off.

I also tried to lock pick it. The trap goes off immediately never says i unlocked it so i got on another char after dieing and it still didnt work.

Any other suggestions?

Make sure you are using a GM lock picker to pick the lock.

Man i had so much fun with these back in the day. When they didn't need to be locked. And was fun trapping guard tower chests. And even ones in peoples houses, even when you was outside! :)

Try doing a crate since maybe the red boxes are a little too tough to pick without setting trap off.

What's fun? Locking them down on the porch of the house. Then, write something on the bulletin board such as, "Warning: Do not open the crate on the steps.:.

LOL, it still makes me laugh when people open it and explode. I guess I shouldn't put items in the crate to give them the impression there is something good in it, rofl...la

The posts bring me back some good memory. In the early days of UO, I loved to poison fish steaks or ribs then leave them on the ground of high traffic area. (At that time, fish steak is the best selling item at Britain Bank, @ 3 gp per piece. It doesn't seem a lot but I made less than 1m gold in the first 2 years of playing. And a castle was worth less than 1m.) About 50% of people would eat the food on the ground, then most of them will die in one or two minutes. Some panicked and kept casting cure but failing until the last breadth. Some yelled "Cure me, cure me" but no one did. And some just don't know what to do. I always had a good laugh no matter how many times I did this. Best place to do this is the fish market in Britain.

LOL, I used to do the same, but I would wait for them to die...then offer a rez (I only had 30 magery at the time) so I would cast the spell and fail...I would tell them to hold on, and keep them from running to the healers...wait until their corpses turned to bones...then loot them and walk away.

Good times indeed...la
