Questions about the new faction changes.

Okay, so theres gonna be a War of some sorts. AND there will be rewards for beeing in factions while participating in this war.

So far it sounds great. More people in factions. But if I know you guys right by now the WAR will be on both facets, and then most people will more than likely join a faction, then recall back to trammel. Which in turn has faction wars turned off.

Now i know this is a step in the right direction. But it wont help the faction system much. It gives us a reason to be in factions, but it doesnt do [censored] for PVP...

Can any dev shed some light on this? Is it what i suspect or have you come up with some genius plan?

Yeah what is this whole Factions thing about. Is it just some bonus for joining a faction (seems a bit easy to me, no reason not to really) or have you got to participate in factions, sigil capturing, killing, ranking etc?

I seriously doubt that they would go so far to implement these changes, and allow people just to join up and reap all the benefits. There might be an added PvM element, and a more dynamic encompassing of playstyles, but the whole point of factions is warfare/PvP.

I think that these faction benefits are going to include changes to faction crafting, and recognition for top-tier PvPers.

Ah yes, no love for the lowly thieves once again. Without them factions would be so meaningful....

im a thief, and i have my killer.
and ill tell you right here and now, its 100 times easier to kill someone in factions then it is to sneak into the base past all the traps and detectors and fields and such and steal a sigil.

so give points for stealing sigils!!!!!!

A true thief or assassin does not seek recognition for his craft, for such exposure would only mean death. Instead, a practitioner of the silent art should take self-satisfaction in the swift strike of his blade, dragging his jagged kryss across the jugular of an unsuspecting Commanding Lord, or burying his dagger to the hilt in the spine of some self-righteous braggart.

Nonetheless, that is from a roleplayers perspective. I don't mean to suggest that thieves and assassins shouldn't be rewarded in some manner. Instead, I think that there should be a whole other prestiege set for thieves and assassins; perhaps even an entirely separate assassins guild? Commanding Lords could hire individual players for a day/week/month, and set up payments for each opposing faction member they kill. Commanding Lords would be the only ones who could have access to this thief/assassin guild listing (so other players could never know). Thieves and Assassins could eventually begin to gain rewards (artifacts, secret abilities and skills), but this would be a totally separate thing from the individual factions. You could be working for the True Britannians one week, and Minax the next.

Of course, for loyalists of a certain faction, you could base it upon how many sigils they have retrieved.

Ummm....my thief RARELY kills anyone and I have had little desire to use her as an assassin. She's also a scout and a trap remover. With GM level skills such as remove trap, detect hidden, tracking, hiding, stealthing, and lockpicking, she has little room left to excel in other skills to use for offensive purposes.

I honestly don't know what kind of rewards work for a character like this. Owning a war horse is pretty much out of the question because of the almost constant lack of sufficient rank to ride it and, more importantly, because the horse's name will appear in the thief's vicinity every time she logs in or out. (Bad idea if you like to log out in the enemy's base.) Faction-blessed armor ..... meh, if it takes silver to make it, chances are my thieves would never be able to cough up enough faction silver to keep trying to make it and hope that any of the pieces would be useful. (Most of the silver they make, if the CL's letting them keep it, gets plowed back into making more trap removal kits.) It's much more practical to just go with insured LRC and be glad dying in factions costs less than usual.

I hope Draconi and crew are being extra-creative when they figure out what the rewards will be for participating with a faction character in this new outbreak of war. Somehow I expect the focus isn't going to be on the thieves, scouts, and trap removers, though. It'll just be more killing, looting and bickering over event items.

*sigh*

*Chuckles* Well, I certainly hope that is not the case this time. I am in complete agreement with you; that there are several templates and playstyles, including your own, that are in serious need of some lovin'. The hot, steamy kind that makes you want to go: "Oooooo, I want to play that kind of character!..."

Seriously, though...

The point that I was trying to make, is that the developers are fully capable of creating several alternative paths to recognition and rewards that fit within a certain playstyle, based on what type of character you play. Whether or not they do that is completely up to them. What I mentioned above, was merely a hypothetical example of one way a certain playstyle (the assassin) might be able to operate in a way appropriate for his character archetype.

Going slightly off-topic from the factions themselves, I know that there are several types of characters I would love to roll up (a thief or treasure hunter perhaps), but most of these classes have not been rewarding for some time. There is no motivation for a poor person who refuses to use macros like UOA, to create a thief or treasure hunter when rolling up a samurai or tamer is quicker and will reap better rewards in the short and/or long run. I am hoping that, now that we are under Mythics watchful eye, we might see a slightly more ambitious and enjoyable game.
