Questions about Great Lakes Shard

Hi everyone,

I am a soon to be new player to UO and since i have not yet decided on with Shard to play i wanted to know the impressions of the player that play on this Shard about the fellowing subjects.

1. Play style preference (PvE/PvM or PvP or RP) ?

2. If it is PvP, does it seem to be organised PvP (guild vs guild/Duel/Faction "war") or does it seem to be Pker attacking anyone in sight just because they feel like it?

3. Does it seem there are many thief ?

4. Server population ?

5. Is it hard to find a spot to build a house ?

4. Pretty active, from what i've seen second only to Atlantic.

5. Depends how big you want it. Tons of big fel spots.

1. My preference is PvP if not many of your friends are online at any given time.. but if you have a lot of guild members or friends online the enjoyment of going to a dungeon or spawn is much more enjoyable than PvPing..

2. If this was 2006 I'd say the latter.. so many people used to just hide and pop everybody who stepped foot into a battle zone. Now, though, people seem to have more appreciation for the PvP system and don't necessarily just kill everyone on sight.. although this does happen from time to time. Faction and guild wars are much more organized now than they were a few years back.

3. Thieves are rare to find.. maybe one or two nagging thieves roam the battle zones of each shard stealing your potions, bandaids, uninsured items, power scrolls, etc.. Thieves are also very profitable, as I have reeped in over 50 million gold worth of power scrolls and similar items since June on my thief.

4. Great Lakes is (I believe) the second most populated shard to Atlantic. However, Atlantic is filled with item resellers and much of the population consists of rares dealers and not many "roleplayers".

5. No.. Finding a spot to place a 7x7 (small) house is a task that won't even take five minutes. If you are looking to place a larger house then yes-- you'll have to hunt. In 2003 there were virtually zero house spaces of any kind whatsoever available.. even the smallest.. but since the population has changed due to players leaving or transferring to other shards plenty of house spots have opened up.

1 & 2. There is every type on this server, in large supply! There are less true PK's than there once where but then the rewards are less too. The majority of PvP is about control, control of spawns, the gate, or towns. It generally is guild vs guild vs guild. Some guilds are large, some smaller, some terrible.

Rp, isnt as well represented on this shard as say Europa but it still has a good core following.

PvM is everywhere and youll never be short of a group to do things with!

3. Thieves are around and still alot of fun to play...if only for te annoyance factor! Mainly they tend to operate in the faction system, however, there are a few of us whom just steal for the sake of stealing!

4. The population is steady, if anything i would say generally increasing. I have seen a large amount of new/returning players to the game in recent months and heard of less quiting. Its a diverse group, some personalities obviously you will have problems with, but thats life lol

5. Housing is readily available, for the new player, if you are interested in the house deco side. There are many small starter plots available where you can test and stretch your artistic flair! Larger house plots (keeps and Castles for example) are still hard to come by!

Thank everyone for all the anwsers. After reading all of the anwsers i got in the different shards section of the forum i decided to go for the Legends shard.
