Dear Community,

pse. forgive this possible dumb question of a returning player.

Skill Bonus on Items: is it possible to extend your skill cap with the bonus on items? Or can you just get the bonus until your overall skill cab (so at the end just saving you the training time)?

Thank you!
Cali

I'll have to answer this in a couple of ways...

If you are referring to the cap on an individual skill, then items with a skill bonus help you boost to it faster, but will not let you go past it - with one exception which is the mining gloves (bod reward). You'll need a power scroll to boost the cap above 100 to as high as 120 - but the items will not push you beyond that cap.

If you are referring to the total skill cap of 700 to 720 (depending on your account age), then items with a skill bonus will push you beyond that cap.

It is fair to note as well that some skills do not get the full benefit from skill boost items. The one that I notice is necromancy. If it is not real skill your animates wont be as effective. Another is with weapon skill and tactics. If they are not real skill(at least 90) you wont be able to preform the weapons special moves. While some skills get full benefits from skill boost items some do not

Typically, skill from equipment follows the following set of circumstances...

Total Skill counts for:
Success Chance, maintaining non-standard forms (necro, ninja, self-cast polymorphs), etc.
Real Skill only counts for:
Secondary checks, such as weapon specials, bard masteries, etc.

Skill effects on spell casting are in a bit of a gray area. Necro animation of the dead appears to use real skill, while most Magery damage/healing spells check the modified skill.

I can't remember if you can get into Wind with magery raised above the limit, using items, or how Bushido honor works with its 50 minimum (or the items that require 50 bushido or ninjitsu to use the special moves).
