Question: Shield Transfer Tokens

The Shard Shields I thought were the regular decorative type, so until last year, I wasn't aware of the extra next page arrow .. taking me to another page showing 14th Year Veteran Shield Rewards.
Now I am trying to find some of those threads talking about those shields and tokens. I did google Ultima Online for 14th Year shields but am still left with a few questions about how to use them:

The Account with the shields has a player ready to use the tokens to go to another shard. So does that same account have to have a character slot available on the other shard for the first account character to use to take items on a return trip to the other shard?

EG: My Character on Sonoma goes to Atlantic using an Atlantic token, and returns to Sonoma using the Sonoma token I took with me. Do I need to have an available slot on my account in Atlantic in order to make the visit?

Question #2: Can a character using a shield Transfer token stay on the shard they are visiting and play if there is a character slot open on their account on that shard they are visiting?>

EG: Jade of Sonoma uses a shield transfer token to go to Atlantic and there is an open slot on her Atlantic account. Can Jade of Sonoma stay there as a character for as long as she wants. HAHA .. I know .. stupid question but one that makes me wonder about how the shield transfer tokens work.

Can Jade be friended to the houses on her accounts in Atlantic?

I feel like a new player right now. So many changes in this game.

Yes you must have an open slot on the destination shard in order to transfer there. Once there you can stay as long as you like. Accounts own houses, not characters.

Warning though it has been found that a "house owner" this is the labled on house sign owner ... if you transfer that character you might have a bug when they return... IT has been reported and GMs were needed to fix said bug.


As for the questions:
1.&2. depending on your character slots in your menu at start up you must have on the recieving shard at least 1 open slot to take the incomming character. This character can remain as Merus said as long as you like. But to reuse the shield for that shard again you must have another slot open unless you send one of that shards characters back to the home shard instead with your returning token.

When I set up my account for movement i got the 7th slot from the origin store with the bank upgrade.. this gave me room on every shard for the movement and the max bank space for shipping my other characters around the UO Globe. With planning and takning stock of what you need your shields will be a great help to you.

So Shard Shield tokens do work like a character transfer. Jade could work on either shard when desired as Legendary tamer. Nice but I need to study further what Merus and Lady Storm have reported. THANK YOU Merus and Lady Storm for your information. I would not like to lose Jade over a bug since Jade is the house owner on Sonoma. I do have other characters on the same account who could go but not sure if they can use the tokens.

Question: Are all the characters on my Sonoma Account allowed to use the shield transfer tokens?
Yes I found the answer to that one .. the tokens are account bound.

I am thinking of accepting 14th Anniversary Veteran Shields on another old account too if that helps towards having extra slots available when needed. I think I will do that. Then I can send a scribe over to Atlantic to do work that is needed there and not here on Sonoma. Oh wow decisions decisions!

I hope tp supply my newer Jade tamer on Atlantic with upgraded Power Scrolls so she can continue to build skills on Atlantic.
I will transfer numerous items for a friend from Sonoma to Atlantic while, for myself, maybe I can trade Veteran rewards for three Legendary Power-Scrolls for skills related to magery and taming.

There is currently a bug with transfering chars that own a house! I would not recommend it until they fix it, which the dev team has said they are planning on fixing.

And I think some people have reported problems with purchased transfer tokens turning into some other kinds of tokens if they have the purchased transfer token(s) in a character's backpack when the character claims a transfer shield token. Don't know if that bug's been fixed yet.

Remember. Space is limited far more than a normal transfer token. You are limited to your bank box and your backpack. You can not transfer any animals outside of those stabled with a shield token.

Thank you Assia Penryn. I was just thinking about that very problem so checked in here to see if I could get that solved. So with that already solved, thanks to you, I can start making trips to Atlantic and back again.

With the 7th slot you get room to move around and the bank max of 175 items so with your character bag hoding 123 items with 2 spots for the tokens going and returning ..
oh and dont forget you can put on and hold items too like dress cloak apron etc and book in hand and a tally.
You would be surprised how much a character can take if your really clever.
All pets will be fine in stable so you can have your ride and packie in the stable for the journey round trip.
As a side note I have taken easer to get pets for my alts on otehr shards using my stables as a trasnport.
You must be in a secure area so the inn or your home where the character is easy to log out is good.
Always double check your containers i nthe shipping crate before you press the transfer button... this way if you forgot or made a mistake you can cancel and redo it after you fix it.
Take your time and you should be fine....

Two quick things not mentioned....

1st, you may be able to get around the bug with house owners if you've used a name change on the house owner. I use one on my home owner that travels around & never had a problem.

2nd, make sure to take off any personal bless deed on any item BEFORE you use your shard shield. If not, you will find your unable to remove the personal bless deed once you change shards. I had to page a GM to fix mine & only travel now with the personal bless deed in DEED FORM in my backpack.

Not quite sure what you mean by Name Change on my *house-owner. Do I have to change the name of the house owner so that she (*Jade) can travel around? Or can I use a character on the same account as Jade the house owner?

That sure brings up another question. Does the character traveling around have to have the same slots open on each shard? lol

Eg: Jade is in # 1 slot on Sonoma. Does the slot open on other shards have to be # 1 or is the 7th slot sufficient?

If Jade is the house owner, it seems to be better to use another char for the traveling. As for the slot number, this does not play a role.

Again Thanks Lady Storm. So much to learn about these Shield Transfer Tokens plus possible bugs. I hope most have been fixed but probably not yet.
I won't have that much to transfer but it is nice to know I can do this now.

I have another tamer/mage on the same account with Jade - - um - - whose name is also Jade.
Wound the #6 Jade be confused with the house owner #1 Jade. Guess I will find that out for myself.

Your ethy is fine in your bag.
You know which Jade placed the house, so all the othrs are free to transfer where ever you like sugar.
Their placement in the list on your menu has no berring in a move but you do need an open slot for any move you do.
Now if they can find the hardware issue ..... you will be all set to go.
