Question re: using different ingots

I picked up a BOD just now that requires me to make bronze tier shields. My blacksmithing is currently 77 and I have a 100% chance using regular ingots. I have bronze ingots but I'm unable to use them. I've been browsing information and came across a site that said I have to have blacksmithing of 65, arms lore of 65, and item id of 65 to craft bronze weapons/armor. Is this true? Am I just not seeing the button to change ingot types?

This particular character was going to be a smith/carpenter/tinker with mining/lumberjack as supplementary skills. If I have to level up arms lore and item id to craft various metals, I'm not going to have the skill points.

Thanks!

That sounds like you found some Freeshard's crafting system that has absolutely no relevance to any form of "legal" UO.

It's best to only go by uo.com, Stratics and uoguide.com . For a freeshard, you really can't trust that anything their website says applies to normal UO, or to any other freeshard - only their variant rules.

On the BOD, after amount, quality, etc there may be a line something like "All items must be made using <ore type>"

If that line does NOT exist, the metal to use is Iron.

EDIT: I find it interesting that BRONZE shields can be made from some metal other than bronze.

And that Bronze is an ORE in UO...

Okay ... blue sky stuff: Change the mining/blacksmithing code to allow TIN in place of Bronze. Then use reforging methods with standard smithing hammer - 2 parts copper + 1 part tin = BRONZE!

THAT would be a) interesting and b) slick as all get-out. IMO. <shrug>
