Question on Talismans

I am making a crafter for the first time in many years.

I was wondering if talismans help or hurt when gaining skills? Should I look for one when I'm making a crafter?

It can do both you usually want to craft when your chance is around 50% for best gains some people say 40 some 60 but you get the idea so say you have a 5% chance to make a item your gains on that item are going to be very slow now say you add a 30% talisman you now have a 35% chance to make and your gains will be much better as you are closer to "The sweet spot"

now say you have a 50% chance to make item your gains will be good cause you are in the spot but add talisman in and now its 80% chance aand now your gains have slowed down again
Hope that makes sense

Actually, the devs have stated the "sweet spot" is between 60% and 80% - and even have George Hesphaestus in New Haven (giver of the Blacksmith skill gain quest)state as much.

That said....

I originally had the same qualms about training with talismans, but others have tested and found that the bonus from talisman appears to have only a little effect on skill gain (one can still gain while the talisman puts you over your normal gain range, just perhaps a bit more slowly).

Personally, though, I recommend only using talismans the give exceptional bonuses only during training, and then only if you're training via BOD filling (to make it easier to fill exceptional BODs).

lol see knew someone would correct me there! I really could not remember exactly what it was thanks for the correction Basara

As for the new player quests in haven I have never done them guess I should check em out if only I had a new player slot :-( left! the last new character did the DK quest or tried to but got locked out due to the rune bug that still has not been fixed!

Your skill gains are higher making exceptional items at any skill level. If you can find a talisman with high exceptional bonus and low skill bonus you will see much faster gains. You don't get the skill gain penalty from the talisman bonus this way. It made a huge difference when I trained tailoring.
