Question on beetle care and feeding

I am a returning noob, gone for 5 years and back again.
I was given a blue beetle for my miner, and it's great to have, really! I get so much more done.
But, I read on Stratics that you feed them meat......
I cannot feed it. Everything I try to feed it drops into its "pack".
Is there a way to feed it? Or no?

only guess is you aren't feeding it the right type of meat. i don't think they like pork; i feed mine cooked birds if that helps. and yes, you just drag and drop it on its body.

You know, all I did try were ribs......Guess I'll log in and see if those cooked birds work.

Is it raw meats you're feeding it?
As I recall, I've never had trouble feeding it raw ribs...

Pop to the pen by the Skara stables...
All Kill on the horse that spawns in there...
Cut up and feed the tasty meats...
Beetle goes "Om nom nom"...

If that drops into its pack, then it could be a new bug.
As far as I was aware, a pack animal wouldn't have any trouble eating 1600 stones of its favourite food, intended for its pack,

Wait until they see a fire beetle and find out how much more they can do

Yup, Blue beetles will eat raw meat, cooked birds, and Sausages. All other meat will drop into thier packs. (as far as I recall)

I was trying raw ribs and cooked ribs (I had alot....you don't need to know why...heh), and it wouldn't eat either.
I just tried some raw bird, and it ate them right up!

Raw ribs works... cooked ribs don't. Fish don't work I don't think. Cooked birds work,, raw birds work.

Are you aware of pet bonding? I ask because your an RR (Recent Returnee). Feed your Beetle, stable it for 1 week, feed again and it will bond to you.
Upon the Beetle's death after bonding, it's ghost will follow you until you can find a Tamer who will rez your pet. Pets no linger stay dead!

well yu can drop the ham on the life bar if your next to it and it will eat it but if it goes in its pack then its not food for it

I just keep summoned sausages on hand. All meat eaters eat it, and for a long time it was the only reliable 1 stone weight meat.

Drop it onto the bug itself, not the pack of the bug. (you knew that tho)

Be sure to stable it for a week to get it bonded so you don't have to replace it when it dies. (just have to find a tamer to rez it)

Never let a mongbat or headless walk by without having the beetle kill it. They're free food - easy kills - and help the bug skill up so it can survive without you better (when you lose connection or get killed)

Never - Ever - Ever take it near Fire dungeon or any champion spawns. You'll never get it away from all the little pests that are attacking it.

- A Fire Beetle doesn't have a pack, but can be used to smelt as you go. (and you have slots left for 2 pack animals with one)

- A swamp dragon also only takes 1 slot, and can be armored and while you are mounted on it, reduces damage you take by a % (absorbed by the swampy)


Keep your beetle dry, they can't swim... and are alergic to sea serpents anyway.

Don't take a fire beetle into a tavern, the results of exposing all that liquer to a flaming bug can cause serious structural damage, and they don't have that kind of insurance in UO - so you have to pay the repairs.

If you paint an 8 on your beetle, it still can't run on 3 legs or spray oil on anyone.

When feed my blue beetles, I have to put the food *right* over the mouth. Anywhere else you drop it, it'll go in their backpacks. Sometimes it helps to have the beetle's face towards you, so you can see better.

Mine sure eats raw birds. Thats why it is so fat. I foolishly dropped about 500 birds on it.

Also giving your beetle a pet command has the same effect as feeding it. I haven't fed mine for 5 years....i just hop off and say "all follow me" and it goes to wonderfully happy
