question for all melee pvp'ers

I am interested in anyones' opinion that cares to give it, and also the experiences or reasoning behind their opinions, if they care to offer them.

The question is: which do you prefer in weapons- fast with light damage, or slow with heavy damage?

In pvm, there are many instances where I will try out a heavy damage (albeit slower weapon) and it seems that even with the extra damage, the kill takes longer than the fast weapon with lighter damage.

Is all this answered in the "damage per second" column under combat, or are there extra considerations to be taken into account?

I recall that once upon a time, the "damage per second" differed between a heavily armored opponent and a lightly amored opponent. I would assume that this still holds true- correct?

End of post- I'd like to get a feel for which is more prefered over-all by the experienced fighters, and which style of weapon they've had best success with. Ah, which raises another point- would this differ fighting a mage, as compared to another melee fighter?

Thanks for any and all comments.

kryss, diamond mace, broadsword, bone harvy, cleaver, butcher knife, etc. anything can be good. fast is best.

Considering that if you miss with a slow, heavy weapon you can be dead before you manage to connect with a killing blow, I always opt for speed.

Faster swing = more frequent checks for successful damage. In my experience, that always tends to pile up faster than a dubious series of slow, heavy hits. :)

Missed this part, the first time around:

You definitely want to go with a fast weapon against a mage. Each hit that lands will interrupt spellcasting.

I thought there was a spell that could be cast that would prevent their spells from being interupted?

they dont usually use it because it makes their casting slow...

If you use a slow weapon, use one with fireball for a double interrupt. And shurikens.
