question about working up a cu

training up my doggie and took him down to the corpses in covetous.

i gm'd his wrestling, anat went up though slow and healing is now above 90.
tactics however did not rise at all. i don't recall this happening in the past.
was there a change?

i took him over to the yomotsu mines and dragged up a shawdow ele to the entrance and viola, tactics moving up nicely.

res spell and anat i went to sea serpents and promplty gm'd in a hurry.

tactis should rise though when fighting rotting corpses no?

any insight, thanks.

I am not a numbers guy, thus I probably shouldn't even be bothering to respond here. that said, this is my understanding of the mechanic:

a combat skill has to be within 20 points of the target's skill in order to get gains. I know this is the way with wrestling, and I think it also applies to tactics. I don't know the average tactics on a corpse, but perhaps the ones you were training off of were not with the requisite skill range?

Tactics has, in the past for me, required the opponent to be within the 20 point range.

You can lore the Shadow Ore Elemental and see if he is in range.

When Tactics are stuck for me, I go to the Ogre Lord Island in Despise and let the Pet fight the 3 Ogre Lords.

When I use the RC's it is to raise Healing and I have the Cu in an All Follow Me mode so no he would not raise in Tactics in that case.

They are correct, the pet hast to be within +/- 20 points to have noticable gains. Idealy you want the pet and target to have the same skill value for the best gain rate (+/- 0.0 pints). So the general rule of thumb would be: the closer your pet's skill and the target's skill, the faster the gains.

Keep in mind that when you train with a shadow elemental, it will gain skill too. This really only matters when you are training multiple pets or several people are training on one elemental.

the shadow ele worked like a charm tyvm.

for healing though i'm intrigued about the all follow me mode.

does this mean the rc will not take damage as the dog will not attack?

if so he is all 100's and 95.4 healing now. do i need to bandaid him or will he be self sufficient?

no i'm not unattended macroing, but i like to hide down in the rc room and let the dog go while im working on another screen. usually i pull the mummy's out and he can kill the single rc without vet. i check in every few to feed him and what not.

i worked the dog from 9 am this morning with 1 corpse and all thru lunch in doom with 2 corpses and got a whopping .3 gains. worse than .1 an hour.:wall:

guess the upside is i have plenty of bones for doom and i made nice bank on gold and bandies from the mummy's.

thanks.

I've been working up a new cu this morning as well...

This is the first one I've tried to actually "train"... others I've just let "grow" naturally while out hunting. The shadow ele has worked like a charm for most skills and he's almost GM'd all his melee skills. Healing is the next hurdle and I can see it's going to be a pain.

My question is: anyone tried (or have any thoughts) on discording a cu to improve healing gains?

i understand disco to work but i don't have disco and i really don't want to put out my guildmates that do to waste their time spamming it on my dog.

healing moves nicely to 90 i will say. rotting corpses take it past that given the poison the inflict. it just really grinds to gm it.

i'm going to take the laid back approach to this. i'll work it a bit on the corpse each day. if it gets there, it gets there.

thanks.

I've been playing around with disco lately (replaced med and EI to see if I like it) So far I seem to be using it more than I really "used" the EI/magery for offensive casting. It's also nice in the fact that once you disco something it's disco'd permenantly (as long as you stay visible and in sight range) so no constant spamming needed.

At any rate... I have tried disco'ing the cu and all of his skills drop *except* for healing when I lore him. He does seem to gain in healing quicker though, hence the confusion. It could be just because he's taking more damage and making more healing checks?

Anyone have suggestions about their favorite rotting corpse spots? I know years ago I used to see folks training with one near one of the Ilsh shrines but I can't remember which one it was...

What I do is to (order is not important) open an empty cell and place the Cu in it (Unlock spell).

Drag the RC to the Cell, Unlock (Spell) it and get the RC inside.

Invis/Hide to lose aggro.

Now there should just be you, your Cu and the RC, in a sealed room. Meaning no adds.

Now all you need to do is to get the Cu and the RC to fighting and then say All Follow Me to the Cu. I tend to then issue a All Stay so I can walk away from the Cu.

Now then just Cast Greater Heals on the Cu. This will keep him alive. The RC will not take any damage and things just go ....

Now I have a Logitech G15 Keyboard and have a GKey set up to spam the hotkey for Greater Heal+WaitForTarget+NearestFollower, every 15 seconds (plenty of time for mana regen for me). I stay busy on the other computer and keep an eye out for ..... anything happening.

I seem to remember that it has to do with the suppressed anatomy skill. You can train the healing skill comparable fast to GM once the dog is discorded. (BTW, then it does not need to be poisoned but it will go up even faster. Someone applied a lot of effort to explain it all with numbers and such. Skill check (-> gain) more often when poisoned than wounded, blah blah. Must be somewhere in the archive.)

Best RC spot to me is still the northwestern room in Doom. There's a spot between two coffins where only one can attack at a time. Stay behind the dog, kill the mummies instead and you can train for hours (very boring though :bored:).

That actually makes perfect sense why the healing was gaining faster (and at all considering it was a shadow ele.) It kept me vetting though - once I discorded the cu he started taking quite a bit of damage (vs not having to heal AT ALL before discording)

I will check out that area in Doom. Boring is OK... that just means I can get some work done at the same time! (Ah the joys of working at home and dual monitors ;))

Easiest way to rain a cu´s fighting skills is ofc shadow iron ele.

For healing just discord and cast poison until gmed.
By then resist should be around 92 atleast.

keep it discorded and spam weaken. preferably with 100 magery 0 eval so you dont get aggro and dont need totrap it then...

At the risk of sounding like a complete moron - where are these cells of which you speak?
Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

One of the Covetous levels has a stairs down that leads to like a small area of cells and a main room.

Off the top of my head I can not remember which level this is as I have a rune to it. I can find out tonight and let you know.

If I didn't say it, Magic Unlock is the spell to temporarily unlock the door.

I maxed all my Cu's skills out with the exception of healing by fighting The Sphynx. Sure, it may be boring but you can bring in a lot of gold. His healing stopped around 85-86 on The Sphynx, then I went to 90 with corpses.

Took my Pup to the Trogs and just let him have at it. Took time but he is now GM Wrestling, Tactics and Anat. Healing is 88.1. GM Resist Spell with Spellweavers in Old Haven.
