Question about scripting (honest question here, not looking to stir the pot)

Hi guys.

I hate to sound like an idjut, but I have to ask: Do GMs respond to reports of players scripting? I briefly tried to find an answer here in the threads talking about scripting, but didn't find much other than a lot of arguing. I don't keep up with these things so I am ignorant on the matter.

Reason I ask is that recently my private island has become semi-private (it took over a year, but someone finally realized there was room for one more place). Almost immediately, I started getting a pesky scripter recall-mining around the edge of the island. I used to just kill the buggers but now that my house is in Trammel, that isn't an option :(

I'm sorry if the answer is an obvious one, but as I said, I generally just go about my business, but this guy is starting to get annoying, so if I can get rid of him some how...:D

As far as I know GMs don't respond at all, certainly not to scripters.

So if your post was really a "I plan to script and need to test the waters" post then go right ahead, no one at EA cares.

Hah. Guess it would look like that. Nah, I just play the game - no need for resource scripting. Its just getting annoying having this guy recalling all over the island. A minor complaint, but like I said, if I could do something about it...

Thanks.

According to Jeremy at the Town Hall, anything that the GMs do regarding scriptors is behind a "privacy policy", so if they ARE doing something about scriptors, you won't know about it, nor will they tell you even if you are the one paging.

However, they did keep hinting about "we like fire" during the Q/A which may have an impact on a few issues in the near future.

As for scripting itself, it really depends on how you mean it. UNATTENDED macroing is of course illegal, and especially unattended scripts that do very complex maneuvers.

However as long as you can address a GM when one contacts you on suspicion of scripting, you're legal.

So really it's less bout scripting itself and more about attendance to the game.

Ahh, I assumed as much. The way this guy is behaving, he has to be unattended. On Chessy I used to be in a guild that RPed pirates. Kind of a hard thing to do after Trammel. We were pretty much reduced down to going after scripters we would see about while sailing. That got boring pretty quick though.

The thing is, I've paged 9 times on 1 specific person and he just kept scripting on and on with 3 chars for over a week after my initial page. Then I stopped checking.
I mean that makes you sort of sceptical, if it takes over a week to detect if someone is scripting while recalling up and down and dumping heavy weight resources on the edge of a plot with 3 characters 23/7.

Have a tamer release a super dragon near one of his recall spots? A treasure hunter chest maybe? How about the old drop items in the recall spots gag?

As long as your not unnatended you have 0 chance of anything negative happening to your account.

The Privacy thing is just a smoke screen to hide behind so they don't actually have to do anything. If it were true it would be an ALF.
Absolute Logic Failure.

Example?

We're sorry, we can't tell you that "Frank R0xal0t" that lived next door to you was indeed scripting as your page said, but we can bomb his freaking house for scripting! *BOOM!*

See the flaw in the system here? ;) It makes absolutely no sense that they can but can't. Or .. Can't but can.. do.. do but can't.. ARGH!

They only care about skill scripters.
They keep them from selling advanced character tokens.
Resource scripters don't cost them a thing.

But if they ever put in Ingot tokens, I bet script miners go extinct in the first week.

That "privacy policy" thing... Maybe that means they do naughty things in private when someone sends a page. :x

More seriously, they may be doing something against unattended scripters. They might be doing something against attended scripters (they probably apology for disturbing them). But they have their own opinion on what's worth banning and what's not. You can use a script to cast gates at WBB (or Luna) to your shop, they won't do anything.
It seems they have the luxury to choose.

It's fun to pay for a service that you can't prove its existence. You have to believe.

If he looks unattended and you care to page on him, just do it. Use the 'verbal harrassment' option so that you can target the char.

If he's not 100% unattended the guy will respond to the GM and they might not be able to ban him. But, if he is really unattended and assuming he's still doing it when the GMs get to the page, they will.

To my knowledge they don't perma-ban the account on the first time they catch one. The first time I believe they get a 72-hour ban, and then if caught again, it's perm.

I've heard that releasing nasty monsters in incorrect places in Trammel can get you into trouble, btw.

They don't want to stop scripting or they would have already. It would be simple, both short and long term.

Short term: put out a small patch every other day or so, just enough to break the Program-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named. It could be quite small, so as not to inconvenience dialup users.

Long term: Finish KR and bury the Legacy client.

I reported a script miner about 6 or 7 years ago. Thinking back I probably should have just run off with his ore. I think both he and the ore disapeared.

When I would come across resource scripters in Fel I would usually just kill them and take their ore. In Tram I'd page, but that rarely ever got any action judging from the fact that they'd be there the next day.

i'd release the dragons. then you could claim ignorance, lol. just say your training your taming and had to release to another server. people do that all the time, and since its a "private" island type deal, you might get away with it or a slap on the wrist, if they show up at all. blocking recall spots is kinda blatantly obvious and with the way gamemasters are now, you might get in trouble for blocking spots.
