(OT) Question about RSS Feeds UOEM Website

Ok, I have never been one to subscribe to any feeds. Never saw a need for it until now, and don't want to miss any events. If I am subscribed to the feed does it alert me on my computer about an upcoming event? Or do I have to keep an eye on the website still?

it will go to where ever you manage your rss feeds similar to an email.
Opera web browser check my feeds every five minutes and gives me a quick pop up in the bottom right screen if i get anything. then it stores the message similar to an email.
