Question about new talismans and maps

The crafting talismans, maps and other items with a 24 hour lifetime: does the 24 hour timer start after the first use, or does it start at the time of purchase? Can I buy several mining maps and keep them unused until a later date?

As soon you buy them the timer starts. Talismans have no timers, they have uses.
