Question about fighting groups of mobs

Whenever im in the middle of a group of critters fighting ive noticed after my primary target dies i stop attacking even though i have 10-20 critters surrounding me. Is there any way to setup so that ill auto attack the next closest critter? So many times i double click on a mob to start attacking again and end up dismounting. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

You don't say which client you use, in EC I use tab set to "nearest enemy target" or "next enemy target" and another key to "attack current target"

No, you won't automatically start attacking the next target in either client. You can do a macro to make a single key stroke in either client, however. If you could auto swap targets players would just put their character in a place with drops directly into your pack and let their character go to town while they go to the movies.

That's annoying. I use cc so guess ill have to start making macros for it. Again thougj while I understand reason given by goblin, I still think it's unfortunate that once again things are made.... complicated due to cheaters.

Target next is rather suboptimal, because the next one does not necessarily be the one, which is standing next to you.
Target nearest is definitely the way to go.

If you neither attack a specific target explicitly nor set a target explicitly, I never had such an issue, as the char usually strikes back automatically. I.e. when doing level 1 & 2 spawns, I usually kite a bunch together, run up to the mobs, stand there and activate whirlwind. Game does the rest, as my char automatically attacks, as long as I don't tab out...

I don't actually ever use "nearest enemy target", I put it first in the suggestions because it might work best for him in the situation he described, in practise I find "next enemy target" when used after the death of a mob seems to go to the next closest anyway, the reason I prefer it over "nearest" is I mostly do champ spawns and I prefer to be able to keep hitting tab and "attack" to cycle flag everything in range to get a nice amount of spawn after me for hit area fodder :)

I have found that when doing spawns it is better not to use any spell effect weapon when doing whirlwind and to not use Holy Light. Either seems to mess up the targeting of the mobs. With normal weapon and no spells I just keep mowing them down 99.9% of the time with just auto-targeting. As soon as I use a spell or spell effect weapon, it seems as if I start targeting a creature that is on the outer ring of the mass and not the nearest. Neither tabbing or using nearest target key seems to reset it properly. I usually have to log out and back in to reset and start targeting normally again
