question about blackrock infection

so i carry a piece of black rock with me almost all the time despise and shame even going to the poison ele i carry it from time to time (if i feel like getting beat really bad) but i have been in ilshenar for quit some time and i have yet to see one thing become black rock infected i know this works as the lower lvl creatures are the easiest to change fact is i am getting allot of ettin chests but would like to start getting gargoyle chests or even yes i am going to say it a black rock infected paragon chest yes i know i am a glutton for punishment in this desire buuuuutttttt i really would like to see this one

does anytone know if its possible?

I tried the whole paragon blackrock infected thing and while it was exciting to think about, it was pretty clear that it was impossible.

The toughest BR infected chest so far for me was a greater dragon. But I have to say I did kill it rather easily with a well trained CU, expected it to be a lot tougher.
Since I have never really fought (not even seen) a para greater dragon I cant really tell which one would be harder.
I am waiting to BR infect an AW now. Prolly t-map chest initial spawn or leftovers from other t-hunters...

Okay, so I was gone from the game for quite a few years, and although I've been back for months, I'm still hazy on the whole blackrock thing. How do you get something infected? How do you keep from being infected yourself? And why would you WANT to get something infected?

I've killed a para greater dragon before and it really wasnt that hard surprisingly. Killed it with my greater in about 5 minutes and only had to use vet.

You can blackrock infect creatures by simply being near them with blackrock in your backpack or if you have been infected.

The only way to infect yourself is to cast the armageddon spell (?)

Blackrock infected creatures have a chance of dropping a named chest as loot similar to a paragon chest so people hunt them for that reason. The items in the chest are almost always junk but the chest itself is rare (some are extremely rare).

Paragon Creatures are tougher. I am not sure of the exact stat differences between BR infected and Paragon (both tough). I have fought both a Paragon Greater Dragon and a BR infected Greater Dragon, and if for no other reason, the speed of the Paragons makes then more of a challenge.

Thanks for the info! Any notion what the chances are of causing blackrock infection? Does it infect a large number of creatures around you? Will it definitely infect you when you cast armageddon?

when you cast the spell it blows you up. Litterly. LoL

To know if you are infected or not you will start hearing voices. For example text will show up on your screen that only you can see.

As for groups i have yet to see this happen. Usually its just one monster ever so often.

As for the random of it. Hard to say. I have killed 40 demons in one sitting and nada..then again I have killed 3 demons in the same palce at a different time and Bam there is a BRIM. So...

I do also collect the boxes. I have notice only monsters that drop Tmaps are the ones who have a chance at droping a black rock infected box.

Plus the BRIM are harder than paragons hands down!!

Good luck with that. If you can pull that off solo you might manage to quiet the people that say you don't need skill to PvM in UO.

I have started fighting a greater dragon (paragon) back in the day when my I first got my current greater. Lets just say it was going nowhere fast, so I simply gave up on it.

I second this. Might take a day to kill it...but....A black rock box infected by a paragon Ancient Wyrm...I would pay BIG bucks just to see that box :bowdown:

actually it IS technically possible to infect a 'paragon' type creature.
some of the higher lvl semi-boss types ARE considered paragons (e.g. lurg, abscess, etc ...i have a paragon chest from both of those). but i only have one blackrock chest from any such creature, tho i was shocked and pleased to snag it - Szavetra, the suc from sanct.
so although infected paras from ilsh are seemingly impossible, you can still grab some very cool br chests.

i am wondering if i could have infected the lurg or the abby, considering that they DO yield para chests. and since they arent ilsh dwellers, perhaps a br chest IS possible from them.

btw ..sunrise is correct.
only monsters that give maps are supposed to give a br chest.
tho i have never gotten a map from all the Szavetra's i have killed.

ok i am very impressed to see how this thread has gotten i figured that after my second post this thread would go to the lost lands of page five six seven

but at the same time thank you everyone for the info i am defenitly going to have to start takeing the BR to other areas as well some of those chests sound cool and the thought of some of the monsters is insane

P.S. BR infected ancient wyrm would prob squish me from across the room but if i could get a screen shot just before or a it happened would be kind of nice for a screen shot collection

I think there is just a chance that the spell will work and another chance that it will infect you if it does work. This is all from what i hear because i never had the guts to mess with the stuff.

They say it's a low chance (im guessing < 10%) but i have pretty good success with it. I have went into a dungeon and infected a monster in the first 10 mins on several occasions but have never been able to do it again in the same day.
