PvP Tips?

Hey just started playing after after not playing for many years... ive got my char scrolled up and rolling as a necro mage, but I pretty much get smashed in pvp....
just wondering if anyone had some good tips or link to pvp guide or somesuch.

Also whats kind of the standard pvp necro mage template?

This is where having the old forums up would have been a good thing. Or at least the necromancer FAQ. That had a good guide about PvP tactics as a necro-mage.

I can't help you with tactics much, since I don't run one myself, but I can help with the template (since the template is just number crunching).
120 magery, med, EI, resist, necro, SS

Items needed:
2/6 fast cast/fast cast recovery
40% DCI (more is better, 40 is min)
40% LMC (no more, no less)
100% LRC (no more, no less)
15% SDI (I believe that wither is capped at 15%)
at least 65 in all resists, more in fire resist.
And some MR.

For a weapon, you could either use a -0 mage weapon, or better a -20 one handed mage weapon with a spell effect (fireball, lightning) and add +20 magery to your item requirements.

In other words, it isn't cheap to get the necromancer template in good working order. When you do, I've seen that it's quite powerful, especially if you have a good team.

Anyways back on track here....

The best advice I could give you is, take your char out to the field(spawns and yew gate) and watch what people are casting on you and others and try to find out how to counter it. Your going to die alot till you get the hang of it. But once you do, you sir will be the one smashing people.

Just got to get out there and rock it as hard as you can, and learn as much as you can.

Also, DCI is your friend against dexers.

You can also use friends as sparring partners. Fight them and learn their moves and how to counter them. Best to fight different templates so you don't get too used to fighting 1 player.

Also try different tactics. If you use the same tactics all the time players will learn how to counter them and defeat you.

Get used to dying as you learn your moves. I learn more when a player defeats me then when I defeat them.

Lastly hang in there. Necro mage is a difficult template to run well because of the large number of spells. Give it time, learn your macros, and learn how to time your spell combos for maximum effect. You'll get the hang of it!
