PvP shard?

Since it is becoming bluntly obvious the Dev's are not going to do anything to encourage PvP I say we take it into our own hands. As it stands right now Atl is the biggest PvP shard, simply because it is the most populated shard. I purpose that we the payers create a PvP shard our selfs.

I recommend that "select" an east coast shard with a smaller population (for housing) and all of the major PvP guilds transfer or create characters on that shard. Once the PvP guilds get established on the shard of choice every PvP guild will war each other. This way there will be PvP across all shards, and add risk when doing mundane tasks in Tram based facets. If a guild attempts to PvP while not showing "orange" due to not declaring war on the other PvP guilds, in order to be safe in tram facets, that guild would be singled out and killed on sight any time there is a fight in Fel and they attempt to show up. No trying to have the best of both worlds.

The reason I recommend selecting an east coast shard with a smaller population is mainly because of housing, but also so the majority of players would have to start from the same place because there will not be as many established PvP guilds on a smaller shard.

What does everyone else think?

Siege isn't a pvp shard lol..u need players to actually have pvp 2v2v2 is a good day I bet..I'd be willing to xfer if all pvpers would but since most are on ATL I'd say xfer there I'm sure the bigger guilds that are honorable would set up a public house for all guilds to stat at until setup with homes

Clearly the meaning behind this post was lost on some. Which shard? I'll see if I could get a player or two on to join this cause.

I see nothing wrong with a PvP shard like Siege/Muegen where only 1 character is allowed. There is players who enjoy fighting and players who enjoy crafting so, I do not see why locating crafters on these Shards could be a problem especially when crafted items can be placed on vendors for the best convenience of buyers. As far as imbuing and the order of custom made suits goes, there is the Stratics' Siege Trade Forum and mailboxes or bulletin boards in the game on which players can place their order to crafters if they do not happen to meet in game.

Insurance ? Well, these PvP shards are for those who like this playstyle particularly with all that comes with it, included, as I see it, the thrill from risking losing one's own gear. It is possible to PvP just fine with insurance and no risks in the Felucca ruleset areas of the other Shards as well as in Arenas on their Trammel ruleset areas.

Really, I see no point in spending UO's resources which are limited, in developing and maintaining yet another PvP shard.

Better yet, improve the current existing ones. A change I think would help Siege and Muegen when done well, would be to allow accounts to own a second house there without any risk of losing the one on the other commercial shards. This change, I think, would allow more players to consider participating to Siege's life, including crafters..........

Yes, it is possible to find current Siege or Mugen players to offer hospitality in their current houses there but it is not the same as having one's own place on the shard.

That's at least as I see it.

You sir need to go back and re read my post, exspecially my first sentence. I am not expecting the Devs to do anything, why whould they do something now when they haven't for 13+ years.

I am asking the PLAYERS to pick a shard and create a PvP shard. I am thinking either Legends since it is such a lowly populated shard (at least I think it is) or Catskills. I would really like to stay on an East Coast shard since 1. I am an east coast player and 2. I think the majority of players are east coast players too.

And no Seige is NOT an answer. Seige is not a PvP shard, it is a specalized shard that I want nothing to do with. Not because it is "bad" it is just not my cup of tea.

You want players to move or create a char on a shard with you and other to PvP - interesting, but WHY? Why dont you just move to where there are more poeple for you to fight with. create a guild with your freinds and just move the guild to a shard and kill everyone like some have done in the past - or try too?

why not try to set up a war on atl. all the main fighting exists on atl at the moment. rather than getting people to move to another shard and suit up, just look into seeing if guilds on atl are willing to war each other. how bout set up a war for january. 1 month. organize the guild leaders to have a meeting to discuss it. in this sense you are only 1 step away from getting what you want.

seige is not a pvp shard. its a hybrid shard in whch the only difference is a lack of insurance, as well as some restrictions on how you can move around. most who pvp want to pvp. losing a suit upon death is a distraction to pvp. it also makes for an unlevel playing surface as some will surely run much nicer gear than others and as such have a distinct advantage. on a prodo shard everyone can reforge, imbue and insure. this means if you take the time and have the will you can have as good a setup as the next guy.

Because I remember the "good old days" where there were 5-8 guild fights with over 100 people. There were very few, if any alliances. It was just a WWF Royal Rumble, and I would love to recreate that. Sadly the PvP group has died down and is so spread out the only way to do that is if all the PvPers agree to go to one shard.

And Just FYI the shard I play on is GL, which isn't one of the shards I am recommending.

I think there already is a PvP Shard for those who prefer this playstyle, it is Siege Perilous as well as Mugen........
1) Siege is not, and has never been, a pvp shard.
Siege is nothing more then a place to go if you are the type of person that gets satisfaction out of making boring and repetitive tasks even MORE boring and repetitive. Lack of insurance has never done anything to enhance pvp.

2) To the OP - Pvp is alive and well and has not gone away since the creation of UO. It is of course now centered on only a couple of shards but still very diverse and alot of fun.
If you are the ADD type that constantly needs something 'new' then you will never be satisfied.
More people should stop complaining and/or trying to do the devs job and start pvping again. It would make a big difference.

Some in this thread think they know alot about, what Siege is.

Losing your suit may sounds bad but you can find a new suit on vendors.
A community is best if it have alot of playstyles, that include crafters, garthers, PvM'er, PK's, Anti PK's, thieves or any playstyle you can think off.

Sure many would love a house on Siege, that's ok if it need to be refreshed.
I think more char slots would help more than a house.
I believe biggest diff from normal shards is, we do not have trammel code on any facet, however we do have guards in towns.

What stop most from playing Siege is fear, they can't get use to no item insurance.

True Siege is not for all, but we have players, who had refused to play Siege for years and when they then get there, they blame them self, that it took them so long. :)

I did actually read the post, and it's not a bad idea as such... it just shows an incredible naivety about why PvP is dead and OSI/EA gave up trying to satisfy that playstyle many years ago. And the simple reason is this; the average PK/Trash talking l33t type is a selfish, lazy individual and won't move to a new shard because it means sacrificing most of the things that allow them to gain an advantage outside of pure skill... Why move to a further away shard and sacrifice your faster ping to the server, and risk losing a fight (and having to blame Speedhaxx even more than you already do)? Why move and give up your pre-made gank squad, which allows you to roll solo miners or people just not prepared for your practised synergies, for a new server where you may have to prove your solo skills first before anyone will run with you? Why move and have to start again economically, when you can just stay where you are and have the advantages years of play give in resources and items where you are? Why adapt your play times to another timezone for the good of the wider game, and risk becoming a small fish in a big pond, when you can stay where you are and be a Big (mouth) in a smaller one...?

The more mature PvP players won't move because they feel they have an emotional connection to their home shard, and many of them have moved to Siege anyway... and the l33t types, who always were the ones who wanted to treat UO like a twitch-style FPS with no investment in the wider world, who wanted massive ego reward for very little actual risk or commitment, have only ever moved to one server in enough numbers to generate the kind of community you are looking for; and that server was the Test Centre, where they could instantly set skills and risked losing nothing. They are deathmatchers not Pirates or Rogues or any other roleplay or type of investment. Indeed for a small but gobby minority of that sub-set of players, the fact that they get to wind up and annoy and grief those who do invest in the game is a serious bonus... so finally why move to a server where everyone PvPs and hardly anyone else plays and thus gets tired of your Global Chat immaturity?

You're asking that community to be constructive, unselfish, sporting... well, good luck with that. Seriously, I wish it would work out for you guys; over on this side of the isle, the issue was never about taking your PvP away, but rather that most of the arguments made in support of it were clearly false; we'd be delighted if you could all find a server perfect for you where you could wail away on each other to your heart's content, with up to date support from the Devs... but you lot can't even stop abusing each other in chat, or tearing each other down over what defines a "Classic Shard" long enough to take the chances you have been offered and thus missed, much less put any effort in to make your own chances.

I hope you'll keep putting the effort in to prove me wrong on that. I'd be delighted to see People Power actually work; But I think you're going to be disappointed even if you do try, sorry.

LOL siege bashers are funny the have NO CLUE what they are talking about.

Siege is no different then any other shard. Ohh wait yea it is we have NO TRAM (that promotes pvp), our reds can and do go everywhere(that promotes pvp). This is the one problem that prodo shard players have is no insurance and they make it about everything else

Uhh, why then is there no pvp on Siege?
Because there are no people on Siege!
I think you should fire your promo department bud.

Not having a mirrored facet (Tram) does absolutely nothing to promote pvp. Its just plain silly that anyone would think otherwise.

Reds being able to go anywhere also does not promote pvp. Pvp is not color specific last time I checked. Also, last time I checked pvp has always centered around specific areas. It kinda has to for it to work lol.

Because most Pvpers don't have the skill & talent to PvP without an uber supersuit. Without all those bonus's from gear, they are not brave enough to PvP, they just boast & babble and stay safe bundled up in their supersuits.

Come to Siege quivering in fear because you don't have a supersuit and try fighting man to man instead of supersuit vs supersuit. A few of you may find you have the guts and ability to fight player vs player instead of suit vs suit. Those who don't can go back to your home shards and feel safe bundled up in your security blanket, ah... supersuit.

Siege separates the men from the boys.

Besides its really low population, and 1 character slot..

I don't like that it's taking aos and pairing it with pre aos rules. Makes no sense. I want no insurance I'll play a free shard in the pub 16 Era. Makes the most sense that way imho.

Supersuit do a diff on Siege too, we do have a few PvP'ers with both great PvP skills and supersuits and it do take time to get the skill and make the money to suit up to fight them. To play on Siege, you will need to know how to make money if you want to PvP.
But PvP is not all Siege is about, it's about the community. To play on Siege, you don't have to PvP, you may just want to be a crafter, running a shop, selling PvP/PvM gear and deco gear or be a PvM'er, selling resources for crafting and imbuing.
Sure death happens on Siege but a crafter can easy replace lost items and a PvM'er / gatherer can easy make money to a new suit from selling imbuing resourcers.

We do need some good PvP'ers, who will play the good guy and give our reds a little challenge and we need alot gathers and crafters.

Siege is different and yes we do need some love from the devs as they did not allow us 2 x resource drop, that make it take to long to gathering resources.

This is a fine idea if people want to join in. It will never get off the ground but would be fun if it ever worked.

Nothing was mentioned about seige in the first post and it was only brought up by people whom don't PVP. Seige only needs the same love as the whole game it's self needs but nothing more. Only the haters seem to want to bash the idea with some others indicating it would be a wasted effort.

I would worry somewhat about the shard they move to if people do this. I've seen the chilling effect PvP talk in Global Chat has on all non-PvP discussions.

Why, by the way, are some people writing as though he proposed making a new shard? He didn't. Basically he's suggesting that PvPers move en masse to one pre-existing, smaller shard, and all war each other so they could fight everywhere, constantly.

Ummm...why not Origin? That way you all have established characters the next time there is PvP content that needs to be tested? I know there are people on Origin who would be willing to help out with providing basic gear to get people going and housing space in Felucca shouldn't be an issue.

I betcha Lady Storm could dig up power scrolls, stat scrolls, arties, etc.
This really would be the shard to do it on. I'd even say that the dev team could field a guild to fight, well they could.

When I first started playing Ultima Online, I was on Napa Valley, but once my brother and all his friends left, I wondered the shards searching for a new home... I have several toons on several shards that are well developed, but when I happened to stumble upon Siege Perilous, I made it my home. I am in no way promoting Siege as a PvP shard, just stating the fact that I love the way the ruleset is... The only shard I play is Siege Perilous, and Mugen when I want a break from Siege Perilous, which is the same ruleset, but with a Tram, but still same ruleset...

If you fear losing your items, maybe Siege/Mugen is not for you... Yes, the population is lower then what I remember it being before I quit in 2008, but it is still the shard(s) I will only play... I am no PvPer, nor am I a PvM'er... I just like the ruleset...

I know Prodo shards offer the insruance that gives you the opportunity to keep your super cool suits, and that is all fine and dandy... But if insurance and losing items is your main concern, Siege/Mugen is not for you... I for one love the fact that I can only have one toon on Siege and Mugen... Amd as for losing items, they are only items... I wear what I want when I want, if I lose it, no biggie... It is part of the thrill that is Siege/Mugen.

I guess it all narrows down to playstyle/preference... If you want to "PvP" with super cool suits, start campaigning a choosen Prodo shard for all to PvP on... Siege/Mugen will take time to develop a toon and save up for back-up suits... It is either instant gratification, or you are in it for the long haul...

:mylittlepony: Thanks!

Also that some of us don't like jamming rule sets and eras that make no sense together.

When I want to play with no insurance I want the era that it was in. It's sad that classic shards have been ruled out because there are great ones out that are fun to play.

Siege would limit the number of templates you can play if you have to worry about gear, I don't like that the shard is like that. Rather boring imho.

It's not a matter of risking losing your gear like all siege players make it, just poorly set up in my eyes. If I were wrong I would think that the shard would be booming, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Does this even happen, or is it just a story the PVP guys tell to make themselves feel good? I mean I play on Atlantic and even on the rare occasion that someone shows up to farm the same mini-champ as me, or whatever, we either ignore one another or make polite smalltalk. As far as I can tell, this mythical hellworld of killstealing and impotent rage where the Trammy looks at the griefer he can't kill and goes "NOOO WHAT HAVE I CREATED" is just a PK apologist fantasy.

PVP smacktalk ruins general chat and we all know it.

Also, to that person with the pink letters, no one is "afraid" of losing their items. Everyone is "afraid" of having to waste their time getting new ones.

The behavior you describe I have, with rare exceptions, not actually exhibited by Trammel players. Indeed mostly in recent years I've seen it exhibited by Felucca players coming to Trammel to continue their ongoing competitions, against each other and against players not in the PvP community. There are exceptions to be sure, but that is the great weight of such behavior that I've observed. This was especially notable back when you could actually look up characters on UO.com and note the guild affiliations of characters who did not wear guild tags. On GL I've seen one non-Fel player smack talk to anywhere near the extent that you describe and he tries quite hard to pass himself off as a Fel player. Whether he ever was or not I cannot guess, but he almost-certainly is not at present.

This really only makes sense: In Trammel you compete against the objective obstacles provided by the game itself, and victory is judged against objective criteria. You either defeated the monster or it defeated you. Rolling into Global Chat is not going to change the outcome. But in Felucca the outcome is more malleable and more socially defined than objectively defined.

As to my point, it was rather clear, and my sincere thanks for illustrating it so well.

Siege is a different shard then you guys are used to playing i get that, but you guys truly dont understand what siege is, its way more then you guys give it credit for. I get it siege isnt for everyone but why so much trash talking about something your not willing to try? (by try i mean actually play for a month after established char)

There are alot of people that very much enjoy the shard we have active factions, we have active hunting parties and we have active pk's. We have what every other shard has we just dont believe we need the crutch of insurance and tram. well thats how we view tram and insurance maybe crutch not tthe right word though. You cant log in to siege and ask whos online in general chat thats not accurate many will not answer. Gotta remember we are siege saying hi in general chat might alert the pk's to check your normal hunting grounds so 90% of the shard dont even use it. General chat is more used by trash talkers and traders/buyers.

Seige is a different game if your bored of normal uo give us a try even if only to raise skills here and there til you get a character established. Hope to see everyone of you ingame sometime, even though i know it wont happen.

Play your game the way you enjoy it, wether it be prodo shards or siege, just stop the trash talking about a shard you dont fully understand

1) You call insurance a crutch yet last time I heard all Siege pvpers have a silly code where they place looted suits/items on their vendors so that the person they killed can buy them back asap. That doesnt sound very perilous to me lol.

2) Ease up on the trashtalking issue bud. Siege people are the ones always hopping into other peoples threads to promote their shard off topic. There would be no trashtalking if they did not constantly do this. You wanna hop into my pvp thread to do nothing other then beg for new players on your shard? Fine, but then you deserve all the trashtalk you get imo.

Would you scary, hardcore Siege people finally shut up if I brought over myself and 2 friends to double your entire population?
You wouldnt need to keep begging for peeps then right?

Yeah. Thats it bud lol.

All the trashtalk and spawn stealing is being done by pvpers who happen to be wandering around Trammel just to start **** lol.

You are so out of touch and biased its scary.

I could log into Atlantic Luna bank right now and witness some very nasty trashtalk and dishonorable dealings just by spamming a Slither for 100 million. Every one of your supposed noble, Trammel only players would be beating each other up to buy it from me low.

Better yet. Watch all your noble Trammy tamers after a blaze Cu spawns. You will see some of the nastiest and most dishonorable **** ever going on. From known, Tram only tamers with supposedly great reps.

1. Some people ask for buybacks many dont. The victor of the fight decides the fate of that armor not the one begging for there suit back its not a code of conduct this is what i ment about false information.

2. you said pvp shard and ideas about it. So i posted my idea sorry you dont agree with it.

And last of all you wouldnt make it on siege we dont have insurance or tram. Again more false information thinking siege is so dead that you and your buddy or 2 would make a difference.

so yes continue your search and i hope you find the shard you are looking for i've found mine and enjoy it very much

P.S. notice i didnt slam your shard in my post unlike you did to mine

From what I have heard from more then 1 established Siege player I belive that buybacks are fairly common.

I think that any amount of buybacks is a complete joke though. Are you playing a perilous shard or not?

Your #1 claim to fame is no insurnace yet your own players have devised a buyback system to circumvent the lose of un-insured items. Thats laughable.

How do you know who would or wouldnt make it on your dump of a shard bud?
Talk about false information lol?

Siege's #1 claim to fame is NOT lack of insurance or tram. What makes the fun is the Bo can kill you anywhere. You trying to farm somewhere and the Bo wants to farm there, the Bo just kills you. And the 1 character per account, that makes you accountable for your actions, you want to be a **** bag and talk a lot (goldie) people just stop dealing with you.

Does the Bo dance and I die from laughter? cool avatar.

Awesome post by the way! I wish I had more time to play to finish up my chard on Siege and play there more than I do.

So from what I am understanding from the replies is that there is a "mild" interest in doing this. It seems like we might be able to get 3-4 guilds guilds who are willing to do this. I personally think that is a good start. If a few people (5-7) in a few guilds (3-4) start this out, and it goes successfully it has a chance of growing from there.

So my next question is can we start a list of what guilds and how many people from each guild would be willing to be the test dummies in this project.

I am okay with trying Origin for the shard, I didn't list it because I was been greedy and wanted an East coast shard, but if the majority of people want Origin I can deal with that.

After we get a list of interested guild maybe each guild can set an "ambassidor" and we can have a vent chat one night to lay the ground work.

And on a side note can we PLEASE stop all of this seige posts. This thread has nothing to do with Seige, and Seige has nothing to do with they type of PvP and playstyle we are looking for. If all of the seige players want to start a thread as to why SP is so great I would be more than happy to post the reason why I don't wan't to play SP. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

News Flash: If you want to fight against 3 or 4 guilds, there is already a server to do that on. It is called Atlantic.
